Nancy Marie Antoinette Pelosi
Edited on Fri Dec-14-07 01:46 AM by Triana
"LET THEM EAT CAKE!"

...says she of her own constituents outside her home and the rest of us urging her to (God forbid) do OUR will since she is (supposedly) OUR representative "up there". Of course there is some debate that Marie Antoinette ever actually uttered that phrase, but nonetheless, her apparent self-important, bubbleheaded attitude certainly matches Nancy's, thus I give you Nancy Marie Antionette Pelosi:

Same attitude, different century.

43. Can someone get Pelosi and Reed some Viagra ?
Our Congress has been so impotent and I'm very very unsatisfied. What will it take to get them to stop posing and bragging and just DO IT!!! With over 70% of the American people disillusioned or dowright violently angry with Bush and his corrupt administration, the exodus from his cabinet and absolute dysfunction of the entire staff, the lies, the lies, the downright dirty bald faced lies, WHY CAN'T THEY DO SOMETHING???

THe world is glaring at us like the Mom at Walmart with the obnoxious disobedient loud spoiled child who refuses to discipline him or demand better behavior as he has his temper tantrums, destroying everything around him and causing an embarassing scene. Because we allow our own despot dictator to do to others what we condemned in Saddam Hussein and other depraved corrupt power mongers, we in essence show that in spite of our "Enlightened Privilege", WE THE PEOPLE, are as easily led as any in the less endowed countries. For the first time in my 45 years, I'm ashamed of our nation for failing to eject George Bush and his corrupt administration. What will it take for our congress to act? Could someone get them a double dose of viagra so they can at least "Get it up" long enough to get the ball rolling on the impeachment? The world needs us to TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN BAD SEED.

WE THE PEOPLE have expelled corrupt dictators in the past. WE THE PEOPLE have fought against tyranny and oppression and won. WE THE PEOPLE have found good and just leaders and supported them and WE THE PEOPLE can do it again. We are innovators, creators, leaders, inventors, producers, and dreamers. We sent men to the moon, ended wars, created vaccinations for some of the worlds worst diseases, fed nations, and connected all of us here on this site with the internet. WE THE PEOPLE can change the course of this nation and make a difference in the world.

I have no intention of presenting a PollyAnna view that all will be well if we just elect a good leader. In fact, whomever that leader will be will be handed a bag of broken glass and the demands to "Fix" it will nearly paralyze any leader, even a good one. We the people are over 300 million strong. Surely there must be a fair proportion of those people who are willing to rise up, to fight and work and sacrifice and change to make the difference in the world. It won't just be a leader but a nation of leaders.

An apocalyptic view and bitter resentment won't be the glue that will hold us together. I don't doubt for a moment that our world is more corrupt, more toxic, more troubled, more cruel, more in the throes of anarchy than ever before in the history of our modern world. I also don't doubt that one person can influence another person, and another, till a whole community is inspired, and then a city, and a state and a nation.

Today I signed yet another protest against Bush and Cheney. Today I lent my name and reputation to some serious causes. Today I tried to share information and influence with people I love to inspire them to do something too. Today I reduced, reused, recycled. Today I didn't spend money I didn't have or go where I didn't need to go or consume what I didn't need to consume. I'll do it again tomorrow and the next and the next. I alone can't change the world but all of us can.

11. Enablement 101: Read Sebastian Haffner's Defying Hitler
Hyperbole, you say? Frightening similarity, I say, especially the part about the utter capitulation and collapse of the opposition leadership (even before Hitler began to take stronger measures against them).

Read it, if you have the balls to look your own ego in the "eye" (and honestly, who among us can do that anyway...not me and not most anyone else, but for the rarest exceptions and we call those people saints - I don't mean that religiously but it's secular definition).

Yep. Exactly what it is. Someone else on DU suggested that Nancy Marie's expected performance on the job had been decided before she was Speaker. Could be. Maybe not.

But it is DEFINITELY utter capitulation and collapse of the opposition leadership - and IMO, inexcuseable.

But that's beside the point. The point is that America collectively voted for a new congress with more Dems to stop this f'in war! Pelosi as leader of that body should understand that her decisions running that body should take that into account. Doesn't matter whether we are in her district or not. She's responsible to us in her capacity of Speaker of the House.

We just want someone that carries through with the agenda that we feel a Democrat should work on. There IS a difference!

41. Oh, it's not her fault for sending a war spending bill up to him to sign...
As others have noted, she HAS THE POWER to not send a spending bill up to him and the funding stops for this war. Given his intransigence, I think she at some point should say that she has a spine too, and that unless he plays ball, she won't either! Americans would respect her for that.

I think she's worried about the corporate backers and the power they wield through the DLC. The American people would be behind her!

45. First, that wouldn't stop the war.
The Pentagon could, and would, just pull funding from other sources. And the story wouldn't be "Iraq soldiers come home," but rather "Pentagon closing rehabilitation centers due to lack of Congressional funding." To stop the war, they'd have to cut off funding and prohibit Congressional funding from going to the war. And good luck passing that.

Second, an immediate pullout from Iraq is just as unpopular as the "open-ended commitment" plan. She's going with the American people here--push for timelines. It isn't her fault that the President vetoes everything.

47. As George Lackoff would say, "It's all about framing"...
And if they're stupid enough to allow the president and his minions to get away with framing it this way, then they deserve to be voted out of office.

How about, "We are doing what we can to stop this war as the American people elected us to do. The President is not cooperating. and trying to work around the power and the resonsibility of congress to oversee funding of military operations. Therefore, he leaves us with no choice but to pursue impeachment proceedings, due to his continued efforts to try and take more power than the Constitution says he's allowed to have."

48. If you're claiming that you're impeaching him because
you are at political odds with him over Iraq, well...good luck passing that one in the Senate. We can't even break filibuster on Iraq issues. You think we'll convict over Iraq?

(Actually, er, he's kinda on the side of precedent in that argument. Congress doesn't usually attach operational guidelines to funding. The Bushies will just turn it around and claim we're expanding our power and Mr. Small Government Himself is blocking it. There'll be a fight, the American people will give up on trying to follow it, and there will be no public mandate. No public mandate, and there'll be a party-line vote, and the conviction of Bush will fail by a dozen votes.)

57. "DEMOCRATS" in Washington Have Gone WAY Downhill...
Edited on Fri Dec-14-07 09:30 PM by Triana
...they've inexplicably followed Psychopath George right over the cliff. Nancy Marie, especially. And to add insult to injury she cops this self-important ("I know better than you little people - shut up") attitude about it.

CALLING THEM (and her) OUT on that isn't the problem. The PROBLEM occurred before that -- when they followed PsychoGeorge and capitulated - time and time and time again. Nancy Marie went first, with her declaration "Impeachment is off the table!"

The huffy "Nancy Marie" syndrome is just the French lace topping on top of that stained taffetta dress.

Just so.

61. All we want is for Democrats in Congress to do their job...
Since Herr Decider won't do it, it's up to Congress to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies - foreign and domestic.

That ain't what Fancy Nancy is doing right now, and it breaks my heart.

62. Indeed it is....
it already has. This site does more damage to Dems and the Democratic cause than it does good.

There was a time when a substanceless, bashing thread like this one would've been locked for violating this rule:

"Constructive criticism of Democrats or the Democratic Party is permitted. When doing so, please keep in mind that most of our members come to this website in order to get a break from the constant attacks in the media against our candidates and our values. Highly inflammatory or divisive attacks that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents are not welcome here."

63. And this crap will be remembered on the next fund drive.
I'll be goddamned if I donate to a place that bashes Democrats. It's just a little fucking ridiculous to do so.

59. Let's not overdo it
If that applies to anyone in the U.S., it is well more deserved by: Barbara Bush, Laura Bush, Nancy Reagan, maybe Ann Coulter and the various other right wing witches.

69. In Nancy's defense (so flame away)...
I think from looking at the situation, methinks Nancy's hands are tied. She doesn't have a veto-proof House, so what can she do differently?
