This is the correct direction, according to Whitehouse Press Secretary Dana Perino.
In a press conference today, Perino said “Clearly, the President has been calling for -- and others have been calling for - the troops be able to be secure in the fact that they would have the money that they need in order to carry out their mission.” The President is asking for another $200 billion for 2008 for both the conflict and rebuilding effort in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The President feels that too much money will be spent on American kids. He complained that the child health care bill would have cost the taxpayer an extra $35 billion over the next five years.
In a statement today the President said “Because the Congress has chosen to send me an essentially identical bill that has the same problems as the flawed bill I previously vetoed, I must veto this legislation, too.”
