Florida putting same-sex marriage amendment on November ballot -- say goodbye to a blue Florida!
(...especially given the lack of democratic organization in the state due to the primary boycott.)

Same-Sex Ban Looks Ballot-Bound
posted by John Kennedy on Dec 12, 2007

Florida voters will be asked in November to consider a proposed constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in the state.

Supporters of Florida4Marriage.org, led by Orlando lawyer John Stemberger, have scheduled a news conference for Thursday to discuss "several developments and make announcements." The main one is expected to be that the group has secured the 611,009 signatures to get on the ballot next November.

"It's really a drive to push Republican voters to the polls," said Bill Newton, executive director of the Florida Consumer Action Network, and a board member of Fairness for All Families. "But it's discrimination and people don't want to see that."

1. Bill Newton is incorrect (I didn't say wrong)
Didn't almost every anti- gay marriage amendment pass by a substantial margin? He's absolutely right about it bringing Republicans to the polls. They're going to that well as often as it draws water.
As far as his comment that "it's discrimination and people don't want to see that"-again, I go to my first point. When that curtain is drawn, the "real" voter comes out.

3. the "same-sex ban" is a strategy to bring out paleoconservatives. it has no other
purpose. once those folks draw the curtain we know for sure they will vote Rethug. it doesn't matter how they vote on the amendment itself.

6. I haven't lived in FL for 21 years...
But I have a feeling all the retirees with Medicare/SS issues, gun-toting rednecks, "Teh Gays" and everyone else have been damaged and angered as much as the rest of us over the past seven years.

Until the 2000 election, I never thought of FL as a red state. Factor in the blatant election fraud of 2000 and 2004, and it's purple, at the worst. These folks may surprise us. But only if everyone gets out to vote and their votes are counted.
