Kansas AG Resigns After Admitting Affair
Kansas AG Resigns After Admitting Affair

By CARL MANNING

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Attorney General Paul Morrison announced his resignation Friday, less than a week after he acknowledged having an extramarital affair with a former employee who has accused him of sexual harassment, and of professional misconduct aimed at his predecessor.

"I have held others accountable for their actions, and now I must be held accountable for my mistakes," Morrison said in a statement read to reporters. At one point, he paused to gather himself. "Many people feel betrayed by my actions, and they have every right to feel that way."

Morrison's resignation is effective Jan. 31, 2008. Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, a fellow Democrat, will appoint his replacement.

The former employee, Linda Carter, has said she and Morrison had a two-year affair starting in September 2005 - meaning it continued while Morrison ran for attorney general last year and after he took office. Both are married.

Carter filed a civil rights claim against Morrison last month with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. According to her account, the affair began in September 2005 and lasted about two years. Linda Carter also accused him of attempting to influence a federal lawsuit involving Phill Kline, whom Morrison ousted from the attorney general's office in last year's election.

I don't know, but I can tell you, I worked for 45+ years and for 3 different major companies,
in 3 different parts of the country and I can only name 3 senior management guys who I THINK didn't have affairs. Most were extended term, but there were LOTS of one nighters too! I guess that's why I can't get too excited when these stories surface. I'm more surprised that they're able to keep them quiet for as long as they do!

4. He may have been a Democrat of convenience
He switched from the Republik Party to run for the AG office. Since his thing was female staffers and not boy pages, maybe he felt more comfortable in the Democratic party.

5. This is too bad
I like Paul Morrison, voted for him, and was delighted when he beat our fundy AG last year.

He just switched from the Republican party to our side - I'm sure I'll suffer lots of snide comments from my GOP pals this week.

Sebelius bailed on him pretty early - maybe she knew more than we did at the time.

9. Just tell them like you can take the boy out of the country but not
the country out of the boy, same goes for you can take the boy from the republican party to the democratic party but you can't get all that republicanism out of the boy.

7. Don't dip your pen in the company ink.
That's what my old boss told me a long time ago, when the harassment law era was embryonic. Other nice quotes from him:

forest is full of fir

you can eat what you screw but don't screw where you eat

8. "My mistakes"
Interesting how people caught cheating will often refer to their actions as "mistakes".

To me, a mistake is when I drop a letter in the slot at the Post Office and have forgotten to put a stamp on it. Cheating on one's spouse doesn't happen by accident or oversight.

10. Why did he resign? That's what's wrong with us Dems.......
We give up too easily!

Look at Senator Paul Craig, leading a double life, everybody knowing it, and he's sticking with his job! I hate to say it, but I almost admire his public bathroom-trolling, lying a$$.

AG Paul Morrison makes a mistake, admits it and still resigns? Go figure!

11. My guess is
there was more to the story. He probably didn't want it to turn into an ugly investigation. He was always a republik until he decided to run for AG against Phill Kline. Kline is a neo-con weasel.
