This could be good.

Edit: Forgot to mention it has to do with the Walter Reed Hospital article she wrote.

13. And, since this article came out they are "now" having some
hearings on the Hill about this Walter Reed problem. What SOB

Dana was thoroughly disgusted. More time should have been allowed for this portion of Chris' program. At least he had her on.

15. That comment was a ripper. The "surge" will cause a greater
need at this facility.

Chris asked why this lack of money was not made know to the public since they would certainly be concerned and demand this be fixed or would donate to the cause. Americans are like that.

The bastard on the Hill!

20. If you've ever been in the military you would know
When the brass comes through *every* effort is made to clean up, paint and otherwise make any given facility look as good as possible.

The brass usually do not make their own itinerary and are guided by local officers who are going to do everything in their power to make their facility and themselves look good.

17. Republicans removed a chairman who seemed to care about veterans
he House Republican leadership had removed Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey as chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee. The extraordinary purge buttressed the growing impression of arrogance as Republicans enter their second decade of power in the House.

The party's House leaders purportedly removed Smith, a tireless promoter of spending for veterans, to save money....

The leadership's problem with Smith has been his insatiable desire to make life better for veterans during 24 years on the Veterans Affairs committee (six years as vice chairman, four years as chairman).

14. She was also on PBS News Hours with Jim Lehrer tonight. I hope
this gets enough coverage that Congress will have to do an investigation.

19. I've sent emails to both my senators and my congressman
asking them to look into the matter. I haven't received any response yet, and really don't expect more thsn a "canned" message letting me know that they received my email.

21. My Congresscritters think god will take care of them.
Besides they must spend some time in Okla. checking their pumpers (oil) and spending time with contributors. They probably don't know where Walter Reed is.

18. WaPo today:

Yesterday: By Dana Priest and Anne Hull
Washington Post Staff Writers
Sunday, February 18, 2007; Page A01

Behind the door of Army Spec. Jeremy Duncan's room, part of the wall is torn and hangs in the air, weighted down with black mold. When the wounded combat engineer stands in his shower and looks up, he can see the bathtub on the floor above through a rotted hole. The entire building, constructed between the world wars, often smells like greasy carry-out. Signs of neglect are everywhere: mouse droppings, belly-up cockroaches, stained carpets, cheap mattresses.

This is the world of Building 18, not the kind of place where Duncan expected to recover when he was evacuated to Walter Reed Army Medical Center from Iraq last February with a broken neck and a shredded left ear, nearly dead from blood loss. But the old lodge, just outside the gates of the hospital and five miles up the road from the White House, has housed hundreds of maimed soldiers recuperating from injuries suffered in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
