Coulter's book flops; Rove's auction of memoirs going slowly
Edited on Mon Dec-17-07 06:51 PM by CatWoman
Slow going for Rove memoir auction

Early reports had predicted a $3 million sale, but an auction for the Republican strategist's memoir has dragged on for a month.

Bloomberg News

The auction for Karl Rove's memoir drags on a month after the Republican strategist made the rounds of publishers with Washington power lawyer Robert Barnett at his side.

“It's very, very slow,” says an executive at one of the few houses left in the bidding. Early reports had predicted a $3 million sale, but some insiders are wondering if Mr. Barnett has had trouble getting to that number. He declined to comment.

Mr. Rove isn't the only conservative meeting a backlash. The latest tome by right-wing scribe Ann Coulter, If Democrats Had Any Brains They'd Be Republicans, hasn't caught fire with book buyers.

The title spent just four weeks on The New York Times' best-seller list—compared with 12 for her previous book—and has sold 97,000 copies in the last 10 weeks, according to Nielsen BookScan, which tracks about 70% of the market.

Ms. Coulter's last effort, Godless, sold 233,000 copies over the same time span, according to BookScan.

1. Newsmax and conservative book clubs...
aren't buying them up in bulk to give away as freebies or sell deeply discounted any more?

24. That may be why it's not selling.
His memoirs aren't going to contain anything interesting (i.e., insights into his illegal activities), because that could be evidence. You can rest assured that his memoirs are nothing but alot of feel-good GOP twaddle.

19. Maybe that's what
Mitwit was tearing up over on Meet the Press.

I can't imagine that he was really crying over Blacks getting to join his church or the body count in Iraq.

6. If there was the slightest chance that Rove's book would be the unabashed truth...
he'd be getting an 8 digit advance. But this is Rove, whose going to buy a fiction novel sight unseen? (Well, Richard Mellon Scaife, but doesn't he usually bulk-buy after publication?)

11. Dick Scaife just might, actually
He loses over $40 million each year propping up his right wing newspaper in Pittsburgh. Why not spend a few hundred grand to inflate right wing book sale numbers?

26. I think Dicky Scaife has soured a bit on what his $$$s bought
propping up these fools. He actually met with Bill Clinton on his philantrophy efforts. And Dicky Scaife is in a nasty divorce fight with his ex-wife Ritchie part of whom's testimony is about how his "hobby" paper is a money drain.

23. Coulter's book is flopping because the title has more than one word in it.
Conservatives like one-word titles. They forget long titles as they make the laborious trek from their parents' basement to their local book store.
