Alabama full circle. Why activism is important right now. Rove / Vote theft
A lot of our conversation when the handlers of George started thinking of putting strings on him, puppet style, to run as President was covering up and lock boxing some tidbits from his past.

One was the way he dropped out of the National Guard. It involved Alabama - supposedly he left Texas to go to Alabama to run some elections for local folks.

Now it appears Rove may have been involved in the theft of votes (act of manipulating numbers) in an election in Alabama. This was another 'go to bed a winner and wake up the loser' in one county only for one elected office only - very blatantly unbalanced vote change - somewhat decided by one person).

Full Circle Alabama. c 1976 to 2002 - in 2002, Siegleman votes stolen - and Siegelman is still in prison. And its 2007.

This might be the issue that may break the vote theft history wide open. How frequently has corporate news covered any of the 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006 thefts? They are paying some attention to Seigelman - after many years.

If this vote was stolen, why not others?

If you don't already know the story - look it up and spread the word. If it is making it to the corpation news - you should know about it and be prepared - - we can make it stay there.

You might find it unbelievable if you think that using a tight knit and related group of people would be this arrogantly carried out, if it was - especially the part about putting him in prison in communication lockdown. A white collar convicted prisoner usually has wider privileges?

Some say Karl left the WH to lawyer up. Some assumed it was for the US Attorney scandal, some assumed the Plame / Brewster Jennings scandal. This might be his reason.

Start with Mark Crispin Miller. Please contribute other places to go to for best introductory reading or watching.

(side point - Rove was in Washinton helping Bush Sr. in c. 1976. He had already met Jr and was impressed with him. It would be interesting to know whether Rove was involved in arranging the Alabama job (which was supposed to be the excuse for leaving the Natl Guard?). Alabama to Alabama would be a fun circle of unraveling - one unraveled, but smothered. The second one? Maybe not if we all know about it and educate othes. I think Dan Rather should also get in on the Siegelman story, if he hasn't already covered it somewhere.)

4. From the Mark Crispin Miller transcript - Siegelman says....
"...I gained the disfavor of Karl Rove who was also Alabama's Attorney General's Political consultant."

This statement by Seigelman is from this paragraph -

"The Story is that I had the good fortune of serving two years with George W Bush when I was Govenor. And in the process of serving with him, when he was Govenor, I had the occassion to be with him personally at one National Govenor's meeting and I left there with the impression that while this guy was very personable, he was not exceedingly bright, and I was the first Gover to desert my collegues and openly oppose Bush's run for presidency and to support Al Gore, I gained the disfavor of Karl Rove who was also Alabama's Attorney General's Political consultant."

I think he means 'serving' as holding his Governor position at the same time as Bush was Governor.

1998/1999 = Rove is 'Alabama's Attorney General's Political consultant'.

2002 = Rove is involved in an Alabama election.

6. Interesting article from 2002 on the White House and the election
I ran into this while looking for stuff on Rove and the 2002 elections. It doesn't touch on any of the dirty business, of course, but it gives a pretty clear general picture of what was being done, to what ends, and by whom.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2002/04/29/campaign.htm

04/28/2002

The White House is running the earliest, most elaborate political operation in 20 years, reaching deep into key campaigns across the country.

The effort was launched at an organizational meeting before President Bush's inauguration platform had been torn down. It is designed to elect Republicans this fall and lay the foundation for Bush's re-election in 2004. The operation is patterned after the political work of previous administrations, but the preoccupation with politics and Bush's re-election permeates the White House to an extent unrivaled by recent presidents. . . .

An informal command team, which includes officials from the White House, Republican National Committee (RNC) and congressional campaign committees, was created to manage the operation. The team identified key races and handpicked candidates, sent operatives to help run campaigns and is orchestrating fundraising.

Running the show are a few strategists, including White House political director Ken Mehlman, RNC Deputy Chairman Jack Oliver and Mike Stokke, deputy chief of staff for House Speaker Dennis Hastert. Karl Rove, Bush's top political aide, doesn't attend the meetings, but he oversees everything.
