Oh, my.

According to CNN’s Political Ticker:

“Republican Mitt Romney got emotional at a New Hampshire campaign stop Monday, a day after the former Massachusetts governor choked up on NBC's Meet the Press.

“Romney was relaying a story — one he tells often on the stump — about watching a soldier return home in a casket at Boston's Logan airport while he was governor. ‘The soldiers that I was with stood at attention and saluted,’ Romney told the crowd. ‘And I put my hand on my heart, and tears begin to well in your eyes, as you can imagine in a circumstance like that. I have five boys of my own. I imagined what it would be like to lose a son in a situation like that,’ said the former Massachusetts governor, whose voice quivered noticeably.“

Please. Spare me. Spare all of us a continuation of this faux religiosity, patriotism, and emotionalism and especially the weepy, weird, flashing of the smarmy interiors of these miserable Republican presidential candidates. This group of Oval Office wannabes has to be the most bizarre in the history of U.S. politics. From the Constitutionally untenable agenda of Libertarian stealth candidate Ron Paul (or is he actually a Moonie? A Scientologist? A Heaven’s Gate comet-jumper? Who really knows?) to the whining and apparent bowel obstructions bedeviling John McCain; from the veiled appeal to religious warfare of Willard Romney, to the madness and fey fascism of Rudolph Giuliani; from the Baptist babbling of Mike Huckabee to the certifiably insane war wet dreams of Duncan Hunter; the entire field is a Petri dish of the worst with which this country can infect the rest of the world.

But, I digress. Back to Willard:

‘As I looked up there, every single hand was on every heart, and I recognized this is a nation that comes together and respects and reveres those who serve this great nation, and who joins in mourning when one of them is lost,’ Romney continued.

“Romney's emotional display comes just one day after an appearance on 'Meet the Press,' during which the presidential hopeful was again visibly misty ( gag) while discussing the 1978 decision of the Mormon Church to extend blacks full rights.”

(Oh. My. God.)

“In the interview, Romney said, ‘I pulled over and literally wept, even to this day it's emotional. And so it's very deep and fundamental in my life and my most core beliefs that all people are children of God.’ (Yay for the Negroes! Now they can be Mormon, um, priests! Hoo-ah!)

“When asked about his recent emotional displays, Romney told reporters, ‘I'm a normal person. I have emotions just like anyone else and I'm not ashamed of that at all.’

Hope that all is well with you! I have much to do and not much time to do all of it in, and not all of it is shopping! Another special election here (city council race) and I'm supposed to be registering people to vote. Besides the usual voter apathy, do you have any idea just how much people are NOT concerned with getting registered to vote? Many other concerns now to be sure, but the deadline is Jan 5th.

I understand it a little better after the complete turn around of my Bush votin' mom. Long story short, she's gone from voting for him to wanting him impeached and impaled (her words, not mine), to being thrilled that the dems took control in '06 and hoping that Pelosi would take him behind the woodshed, to her stating at dinner here last week, "We voted, but we can't keep on going the way that we are now, so what do we do?"

My suggestion of takin' it to the streets doesn't really appeal to her unless she's pissed about something, but I am more than beginning to believe that people think that voting doesn't matter that much anymore.

My kids were freaked to see responses from when I'd written Fred Thompson when he was our senator that I had in a filing cabinet. It became very real to them that Mom has been raising cane for quite some time!

They've attended many local functions with me. During the '06 elections (even though no one here was thrilled with Ford, Jr.) I was busy driving people to the polls to vote during early voting, and they covered my precinct for me on election day after they got out of school because I was at our headquarters working and driving people to vote. The oldest attended our county's last re-organization (we caucus and elect everyone from the precinct level up in our county) because it was the one prior to his being old enough to participate.

New, liberal blood is what is needed in this county to help us older folks try to fight the good fight.

hanging out under the house and has a fondness for the ductwork (we hear him/her). There is a small space where the duct work from the heat/air unit connects to the ductwork under the floor and that is where Skinny perches and peaks out at us and then gets in and out. :bounce:

You can borrow a trap and catch her, sounds like she'd go into a trap well. If you want I'll come over and help! LOL

She'll get pregnant at about 6 mos. old.

It would be great if you could adopt her!

She/he is just beginning to not run away at the sight or sound of us, and I've asked the boys on different days to go to feed her/him so that she/he see and hears all of us, and the trauma of being trapped wasn't anything that I wanted to consider, but she/he does need shots - rabies in particular.

Pet him/her - hell no he/she doesn't trust us/me near enough for that. We've made progress in that when I'm outside talking to him/her with or without food, he/she will sit and look at me instead of hauling ass away. When I have food and move closer to put food into the bowl, if I get too close he/she still backs up and doesn't want to be THAT close.

The trauma isn't as bad as we may think. Then she will be spayed/neutered and taken good care of. Don't hesitate doing a very humane thing for little puss. She'll be grateful later and she'll eventually just continue her visits to you.

It's doing any stray cat the biggest kindness we could ever do, catching them and giving them care.

I'm hoping I can listen to Sam undisturbed for the rest of the week, I wasn't able to yesterday or today. Yesterday, my best friend gave birth to her second child (it was a planned c-section, so it wasn't much of a surprise) so I was on the phone getting details and today, we finished our "War on Christmas" shopping.

I hope that your friend and the neonate are doing well! I'm envious of your being finished with your war on Christmas shopping! Damn, I still have young'uns refining lists! :crazy: :hi: :hug:

He weighed in at 7 lbs, 3 oz. I can't wait to see the little guy. Mr. smokey and I saw an adorable little baby jumpsuit thing today, it's light green and has a cute little turtle on it. We bought one for my friend's baby and one for my niece's baby who's due in April. We got jammies for my friend's older son.

Not having young'uns makes war on Christmas shopping much less complicated.

I'm just glad that I can see'em, hold'em and I don't want to have one!!! Buying baby clothes for others is fun, but I'm a little pissed that no matter how hard companies try, we adults still can't get jammies as soft as the infant/toddler ones.

FEC Says No to Matching ActBlue Funds

The campaign of Democrat John Edwards today was denied some $4.3 million in federal matching funds after the Federal Election Commission ruled that the money, raised through the online PAC ActBlue, is not eligible under the federal matching funds program.

For the Edwards campaign the decision is especially tough because it comes just weeks before the Iowa caucus, the contest that will likely make or break the Democrat’s campaign for the White House.

"Although today's decision by the FEC is a setback to the progressive grassroots movement, our campaign has all of the resources it needs to aggressively make our case to voters,” said Edwards Spokesman Eric Schultz in a statement. “Even without the ActBlue contributions included, we will meet our projected $10 million in matching funds."

At issue was whether the donations to Edwards – collected through ActBlue – should be treated as PAC contributions or be viewed as donations from individuals.
