HYDERABAD, Pakistan (Reuters) - A Pakistani express train packed with holiday travelers came off the rails on Wednesday and at least three people were killed and about 100 were trapped inside, police said.

The Karachi Express train was on its way from the southern city to Lahore when most of its carriages came off the rails near the town of Mehrabpur, officials said.

"We've taken out three dead and about 50 injured, with both minor and major injuries," said district police chief Abdul Hadi Bullo who was at the scene.

"There are maybe 100 people still trapped. We've called for cutters," he said.

2. I think you have us confused with those other sites
We don't consider Amurkan lives inherently more important than other lives. Death is tragic all over, particularly when it's innocent death.

9. Here, maybe this will be good enough for you. Who knows maybe not

I guess someone could fly you there to count the bodies yourself. And if you only count 49, you can just wander around saying "WTF!" "WTF!" "WTF!" "WTF!"

MIRPURKHAS, Pakistan - An express train crowded with holiday travelers derailed in southern Pakistan early Wednesday, killing at least 50 people and injuring many more, officials said.
The overnight train was going from Karachi to Lahore when about 12 of its 16 cars came off the rails near Mehrabpur, about 250 miles north of Karachi, the officials said.

Rescue workers recovered 50 bodies from the wreckage and were bringing in metal cutting equipment to gain access to more of the cars, said Sikander Ali, a senior police officer at the scene.

10. Just curious....we would have to know about it...wouldn't we to
be able to dismiss it.

It's not like the MSM covers events like this like they should. If we haven't been on line and reading other news sources we wouldn't know.

We depend on our Fellow DU family members to inform us of these events so we can respond.

So I am going to take it that you wanted to inform us of this tragedy and you would like us to respond.

Thanks for informing us.

14. Yeah forgive me
for not following the nightly news in Mirpurkhas, Pakistan. I guess I need to put a Google News Alert on that now for the next Pakistani train tragedy so I'll know what's going on.

15. Well, I can imagine what that's like
When I was working at my first job in Chicago there was a commuter train crash and a lot of people were killed. It happened not too far away from one of the hospitals so there were medical people who literally ran over to the accident to work on the survivors but a lot of them were crushed or pinned and couldn't be helped until there was fire department equipment there to free them. It was amazing how many people knew someone in the accident or affected by it. I think that nearly 50 people were killed in that accident.

Pakistani train crashes; 58 dead, many hurt

By Hamid Sheikh 16 minutes ago

MEHRABPUR, Pakistan (Reuters) - A Pakistani express train packed with holiday travelers derailed on Wednesday killing 58 people and injuring more than 120, officials said.

The Karachi Express night train was on its way from the southern city to Lahore when most of its carriages came off the rails and rammed into each other near the town of Mehrabpur, officials said.

A senior railway official ruled out sabotage, saying a faulty track was believed to have caused the crash.

"According to our update, there are 58 bodies and 122 wounded. Forty of them are in critical condition," said Anwar Kazmi, an official with the Edhi ambulance service.
