FINALLY some actual data on immigration (oops Fox News caught)
First of all here is the Fox News story

Nearly 7 in 10 Mexican Migrants Enters U.S. Illegally, Says Mexico
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,317404,00.html
MEXICO CITY — The Mexican government reported the results of recent studies on Tuesday showing that 68 percent of Mexicans who migrate or try to migrate to the United States do so without documents and 55 percent of them hire immigrant smugglers.

The report, timed to coincide with the U.N. International Migrants Day, also noted that the Mexican-born population living in the United States increased from about 800,000 in 1970 to more than 11 million in 2006.

The majority of Mexicans now living in the United States — 6.2 million (hold it I thought it just said 11 million???)— are undocumented, according to the report, which was based on surveys of migrants and information from the government's National Population Council.

ALL illegals are Mexicans??? that doesn't even make sense

Now here is the actual report. I haven't read it all but it looks very interesting since it is next to impossible to find any raw data or reliable information

Immigrants In The United States, 2007: A Profile Of America's Foreign-Born Population
http://www.ilw.com/articles/2007,1219-camarota.shtm

This Backgrounder provides a detailed picture of the number and socio-economic status of the nation's immigrant or foreign-born population, both legal and illegal. The data was collected by the Census Bureau in March 2007.

Among the report's findings:

Overall, nearly one in three immigrants is an illegal alien. Half of Mexican and Central American immigrants and one-third of South American immigrants are illegal.

The proportion of immigrant-headed households using at least one major welfare program is 33 percent, compared to 19 percent for native households.

The primary reason for the high rates of immigrant poverty, lack of health insurance, and welfare use is their low education levels, not their legal status or an unwillingness to work.

Of immigrant households, 82 percent have at least one worker compared to 73 percent of native households.

There is a worker present in 78 percent of immigrant households using at least one welfare program.

Immigrants and natives have similar rates of entrepreneurship — 13 percent of natives and 11 percent of immigrants are self-employed.

1. I read it as there are 11 milliion Mexican-born people living in USA and 6.2 million are
undocumented. 33% of all immigrants are illegal and the stats on using welfare programs is not limited to 'illegals', but is speaking of all immigrants.

Still there is a ton of information here. I printed it out (54 pages) to read later.
