Statrement from Kucinich website on his brother's death
Perry J. Kucinich, beloved brother 12/11/56 - 12/19/07

Perry Kucinich was a talented artist who produced a prodigious volume of work. Some of his works have been on display recently at a local art gallery. He and his brother Dennis were planning another showing of his works in the spring.

“He was an admirer of the works of Klee and Picasso, and the style and structure of his artwork derived from their influences,” said Dennis Kucinich. “He was a genius. He had extraordinary insights. Although he struggled with mental illness, with the help of his family and friends, he was able to lead a productive life.”

“The Kucinich family is very close knit,” said family spokesman Andy Juniewicz. “This is a devastating loss to each and every member of the Kucinich family. Dennis was very close to his brother Perry. He watched after him, and he loved him dearly. The two spoke nearly every day. He was more like Dennis’s son than his brother.”

Perry Kucinich was born Dec. 11, 1956, the fifth child of Frank and Virginia Kucinich. The family’s travails were chronicled in a recently released book, “The Courage to Survive,” written by Congressman Kucinich.

Funeral services are pending. In addition to his brother Dennis, Perry is survived by brothers Frank, Gary, and Larry, and by sisters Theresa and Beth Ann. They all live in Northeast Ohio.

Condolences may be sent to condolences@kucinich.us

Such a sad thing anytime of the year, but especially at the holiday season.

4. IF it was a suicide....
The Holiday Season is a popular time for it, especially for the mentally ill. Why do talent and mental illness so often go together? What a shame.

14. I'm sorry....I didn't mean to allude it was suicide
and I sincerely hope it wasn't. Death is tough enough without suicide factored in.

I do agree that artists often walk a fine line. I think it has to do with how they view the world.....

Peace

18. I personally don't see anything morally wrong with suicide...
You leave behind a grieving family and probably friends, too. It may occur to some people to be the only way out...I don't see it as a "sin" of any kind, or a weakness.

15. I met DK at a book signing last month and he signed my book.
His book, "The Courage to Survive", is great. They are a very close family and have been through such hard times.

I told Dennis he won the Democratic poll on DU; he hadn't heard of DU but he smiled. He was interviewed by someone from Boston PBS during the book signing for airing at a later time. The book event was in Concord, NH.

I'm sorry to hear about his brother Perry.

16. I have the same birthday as Dennis Kucinich.
As soon as I started to read about him I felt a connection to him on a personal level. I really think there is a thing to this birthday stuff. Jesse Jackson has the same birthday as we do too. The death of his younger brother is terribly sad but I know that Dennis will be ok- he is a man with a story, a man with great courage, someone who loves deeply and has faced all kinds of struggles in his life. He is someone very special.

19. Very sad, RIP Perry.
Mental illnesses are awful. My mom has struggled for 30 years against this beast.
