Impeach or Not to Impeach?
A Discussion With House Judiciary Chair John Conyers and CIA Veteran Ray McGovern

Three Democratic members of the House Judiciary Committee Robert Wexler of Florida, Luis Gutierrez of Illinois and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin have called on committee chair John Conyers, to begin impeachment hearings against Vice President Dick Cheney. We host a discussion on impeachment with Conyers and former CIA analyst Ray McGovern.

Rep. John Conyers (D - MI), chair of the House Judiciary Committee

Ray McGovern, Twenty-seven-year career analyst with the CIA. He is co-founder of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity.

1. McGovern schooled Rep. Conyers on IMPEACHMENT...
Sad, really, that a good man like Rep. Conyers allows himself to be muzzled.

4. Oh Dear God....Please could some DU'er get a You Tube of that segment with Conyers and
McGovern. All DU'ers need to hear what Conyers said about WHY they WON'T IMPEACH.

Does Goodman have a rebroadcast of this so folks can hear it? I couldn't stay to listen to the segment on New Orleans because digesting what Conyers said is so overwhelming.

5. Conyers won't Impeach because the Media would make Bush/Cheney Victims!
That's what it boils down to. In an election year "the Corporate owned medida" (Conyers words) would make them victims and there's "no time" because the "house has important legislation to pass" and "he doesn't have the "votes in the House" to begin the hearings, anyway.

Conyers pretty much says it doesn't matter if Wexler has over a hundred thousand signers or that a Poll Gooman mentioned said that 45% of Americans want Bush impeached and 55% want Cheney Impeached. Conyers said it doesn't matter because he doesn't have the votes in the House.

There you have it. They will NOT hold Impeachment Hearings ...even if it was Americans in the Streets (I imagine) the Democrats will not do it. They don't have the votes... because they are afraid the Corporate Owned Media will make the Bush Criminials "Victims." The deal has been done and this sounds like Pelosi and Hoyer HAVE made a DEAL with the Bushies. What else could explain this?

17. I've thought that for months. Mr. Conyers would start speaking
in his own voice, then he'd seem to remember and he'd switch to Pelosi speak.

What a terrible position to be in.

9. "talk about impeachment?"
Well, that's what Conyers does best. Just as long as he doesn't actually have to do anything about it, he can talk about impeachment for hours. Even give fiery speeches, as he did a couple of months ago in San Diego.

And then he'll go running to Ms. Nancy's office and beg forgiveness, tell her the devil made him do it, that it'll never happen again and, of course, impeachment will stay off the table for as long as she says so. And blah, blah, blah...

Another day, another end run around the Constitution and their oaths of office. That powder must be getting awfully dehydrated by how.

13. I listened to Democracy Now this morning and was once again
sickened by Conyers meaningless attitude toward impeachment. He seemed to hem and haw alot; thank God McGovern tried to impress upon Conyers that it is his duty to impeachment. All for nothing. I cannot tell you the degree to which I am disappointed, to the point of anger, with Conyers. He offerred us such hope after the 2004 election and other than hearings nothing constructive has come out of them. btw K&R hope lots of DUers read this.

have the dems done so little to roll back media consolidation and protect 'net neutrality? I mean, I realize there have been some efforts, but it seems like most of the dems don't even understand the problem, and the few that do came to recognize it awfully late in the game.

but why has Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, John Rockefeller, John Conyers, Chuck Schumer, Diane Feinstein, et.al., capitulated to the minority on every major issue? Why no accountability for criminal behavior? Why are they co-conspirators in violating the Constitution?

Would they appoint less conservative judges to the Supreme Court? Probably.

Are they any different in any other major issue of our time? No.

A dimes' worth of difference and that's about it.

20. Promises were made and are constantly broken...and Harry Reid
Edited on Thu Dec-20-07 03:32 PM by KoKo01
is worse than Pelosi with the games he plays. I think Pelosi and Reid either have no idea the work that's been done by Grassroots Progressive building a place where truth can come out here on the Internet (which was the only place available to us after the Media Consolidation under Clinton). Either they don't know what we have done to support them because they are clueless...or they DO KNOW but are so in bed with the Corporate Whores and the Repug Establishment/Think Tanks that we don't matter. I think it's becoming apparent, that it's the latter. We just don't matter to them. But, they will throw us a false crumb every once in a while. A false crumb.... John Conyers is fond of talking about "bread crumbs and trails"....lots of Hansel and Gretel leading us to the Witch.
