Bush compares Iraq war to US Revolution
Bush compares Iraq war to U.S. Revolution
By James Gerstenzang, Times Staff Writer
4:49 PM PST, February 19, 2007

Mount Vernon, Va. -- Marking George Washington's 275th birthday, President Bush on Monday linked the ideals of the first president to the war being fought by the 43rd, saying Washington's goals guided the nation's quest to extend freedom beyond its borders.

"George Washington's long struggle for freedom has ... inspired generations of Americans to stand for freedom in their own time," Bush said, using a morning visit to Mount Vernon to draw on the similarities of the dilemmas faced at the birth of the nation and the troubles with which he is now wrestling.

"Today, we're fighting a new war to defend our liberty and our people and our way of life," he said. "And as we work to advance the cause of freedom around the world, we remember that the father of our country believed that the freedoms we secured in our revolution were not meant for Americans alone."

Quoting the first president -- and referring, by implication, to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan -- Bush said: "He once wrote, 'My best wishes are irresistibly excited whensoever in any country I see an oppressed nation unfurl the banners of freedom.' " ... "I feel right at home here," he told the audience of several hundred. "After all, this is the home of the first George W." ...

1. *head desk*
Honestly, this could come directly from the front page of The Onion. Of all Bush's "Godamnit!" moments, this is the latest.

3. Most humiliatingly ignorant.
But worse, that so many US citizens were even more ignorant.

And many of us not-so-ignorant let this happen.

(I'm not saying it's all our fault; just that I hope I and some others have learned a lesson from having failed to pay sufficient attention for the 25 or so years before the last 5.)

4. Yeah, we need a revolution now.
another revolution against this tyrant named Bush. Honestly, if there has ever been a time since 1776, this is it.

5. They keep ratcheting up the rhetoric on this fucker. During the House Debate, Boehner said that the
fate of Western Civilization Itself hinged on Bush's being able to send 20,000 more troops into Iraq.

Next, I suspect they'll say the whole SOLAR SYSTEM is counting on us to succeed in Iraq. Hell, the Galaxy is at stake. Nay, the Universe!

6. Bush reminds me of Walter Mitty
He is always dreaming about himself as a hero and brilliant leader. Everything he does he puts himself high on a pedestal even when it's a complete disaster.:puke:
