Injured soldier blogger about his stay at Walter Reed
Ok, so with all the talk here on WR, I googled WR and blogs just to see if there were more real time/first hand stories out there and this is one of what I found. Google also for milbloggers and it usually brings up a bunch of good sites.
This particular milblogger recently had his arm amputated below his elbow and his other hand injured...he eventually ended up at WR

I can not begin to tell you all how lucky we were to be able to move into the Fisher House. There are hundreds of soldiers at Walter Reed and many of them live in horrible conditions. The facility is overcrowded, understaffed, and confusing to navigate. It's stressful enough dealing with the loss of his arm and nerve damage in his left hand. Knowing that at night we can go back to a room that isn't covered in mold or roach infested eases a little stress. I wish every soldier could return home at night to the same comforts that we do.

10. Congress needs to get injured soldiers like this guy
and have them testify at an open hearing..words in a newspaper are one thing but somehow seeing/hearing the injured soldiers and their families talking about this in person seems like it would have a more lasting/effective impression. Then get the brass at Walter Reed under oath and have them explain how it has gotten this far with no intervention on their part.

2. Why is it that freepers have no outrage
over this?

They go into hysteric spasms over their phony "War on Christmas" and at the mere thought of anyone protesting the war, but where is their outrage over the way our vets are treated under their Lord and Savior Bush?

Must be there aren't a whole lot of Vets who are Repukes anymore. They woke up and smelled the neglect....

3. It will be on the freepers conscience
They chose to be blind, deaf, and mute to the needs of our vets. Party above anything else.

Yes, they are totally silent about this abuse of our vets.

4. Oh no they're not silent. It's worse than that over in freeperville
Where they're braying loudly that it's all a lie and that the whore Dana Priest should be hung.

9. Sad, but true. They are more interested in vilifying Dana Priest and
the Washington Post for reporting and printing such "treasonous" material than they are in finding out if it is true. They seem to think that bringing something like this to light is somehow disrespectful to the troops. I haven't seen any criticism over there about the administration that allows this to happen or was responsible for their injuries in the first place.

I think they are all bent out of shape because the article mentioned the anti-war protesters of code Pink, but didn't make any mention of the freepers counter protests.

5. Freepers can't be deaf to this one.
even they'll have relatives in the forces, unless they are one of the super-rich republicans.

Any ex-military personel will know enough about the forces to have the sense to check it out at least.

6. Johnny Got His Gun.
He froze all over stiff and rigid like a dead cat. There was something wrong about this pricking and pulling and friction heat. He could feel the things they were doing to his arm and yet he couldn't rightly feel his arm at all. It was like he felt inside his arm. It was like he felt through the end of his arm. The nearest thing he could think of to the end of his arm was the heel of his hand. But the heel of his hand the end of his arm was high high high as his shoulder.
Jesus Christ they'd cut his left arm off.

They'd cut it right off at the shoulder he could feel it plain now.

Oh my god why did they do a thing like that to him?

Dalton Trumbo. Read it.

He was McCarthy'd in the 50's. Of course.

7. The saddest part
for me after reading the blog, is the thought that these physically, and mentally broken people are supposed to be both soldiers and patients.

Having pain 24/7 myself: I may be eating a can of beans for dinner, because I don't have the strength to walk through the grocery. I may miss a warm and sunny day, because I can't get dressed to go outside at all. I get so frustrated sometimes all I can do is lay down, and cry.

Shining a pair of shoes would put my hand out of commission for at least two days. Putting on a uniform may take hours. If someone told me to make my bed perfect, and show up for formation I'd curl up in a corner and cry.

This is bullshit. How can they treat people like that?
