OH MY!!! The fundies now think I 35 is the highway to heaven!
While waiting for Keith's rerun tonight, I flipped on Anderson Cooper just as he was showing a video of all these people praying and yelling about how I35 is quoted in the bible as the highway to heaven! They said it's in Isaiah 35 that a highway shall be built that leads to the Lord, and only the good shall follow it. (Something like that.) They decided that was the prediction of Interstate 35, so now in all the states this hwy. runs through they have prayer groups standing along the road! Hmmm, these folks sure have a vivid imagination!

5. I don't think so, but they ARE trying to force all the dirty nasty
"sexy businesses" to close! They showed one in Dallas where they have pole dancers and that evil dirty music, and they were saying we sure would be happy if these businesses went OUT OF BUSINESS!

His father is a Methodist minister and the family accepts that he's gay. The church kept him captive, wouldn't let him speak to his family or take his meds.

27. The age of reason is dead
That's one revival I hope to see in my lifetime.

So many people out there compelled by their god to wish ill on others. I've never understood it. They all seem determined to make life hell for as many as possible in the misbegotten belief that will somehow persuade the persecuted to join them.

Don't terrorists use those tactics with the same results in mind?

39. The worst part is not that they have no reason, but what they've done to it.
They've taken all the gains of the Enlightenment (science and reason) and added a rational component to their insanity. Now we don't have torture, we have bureaucratic death. Now they use market research to evangelize. To me that's the scariest part.

11. They probably won't rebuild it through Minneapolis at all
This gives them excuse to reroute it outside of the city, so it can be part of the new "North American Union Superdupermegaultrahighway", which is supposed to be 10 lanes in each direction, or something like that.

We road it from Clifton AZ up to Pinetop Lakeside and it's an incredibly beautiful ride. I've got pics standing beside a US666 sign. We knew it wouldn't last long.

Edited to add that the ride that day through the VLA, eating an incredible green chili cheeseburger in Datil and ending up the day riding up US666 was about as close to heaven as I've ever been.

43. Re the gay dude who was 'cured'
http://www.pegasusnews.com/news/2007/dec/14/dallas-gay-man-adversely-affected-christian-purity/

Joseph Stabile said James left home to go out that Friday night and never returned. Joseph said James, or “B.J.” as his parents affectionately refer to him, is bipolar and had stopped taking his medication.

James called a few days later and told his parents he was moving out, and that he’d be back to get his stuff. James apparently had moved in with some folks from Heartland.

After that, it would be some time before James’ parents heard from him, as his church friends reportedly advised him not to contact them.

Joseph Stabile said the Heartland folks also may have advised James to throw away his medication, telling him that God would cure his bipolar disorder, too.

Joseph’s parents said James has a tendency to be less than truthful, especially when he’s off his medication, and that he loves attention. They said they don’t believe he’s ever questioned his sexuality, but that the folks from Heartland manipulated and exploited him for publicity.

If heaven in Mexico that sort of undercuts the whole idea of a fence unless the evil empire is so afraid of heaven it has to keep us in.

This is one of the kookier Fundamentalist things to come along--and there's that old Huckster Pat Robertson right in the middle of it. You could see that one coming.

And speaking about Huckster's, when's Mike Huckabee's tour bus going to travel down that road--or maybe the Highway to God doesn't go through any early primary states. These people used to be a joke--now they are a key demographic.

To paraphrase Karl Marx, "Lutherans, Catholics, Athiests, Buddhists, Methodists, Agnostics, Presbyterians, Wiccans, Muslims, Baptists, Sihks, Episcopalians and Evangelical Christians of the sane variety unite! You have nothing to lose but your country!"

This sounds like the kind of thing my evangelical mom starts spouting when her meds aren't strong enough. She's bipolar, and when it gets out of hand, she fixates on her faith and church. She starts "prophesying" and telling everyone what she thinks God has told her, and it sounds a lot like that kind of crap.

Did they decide which translation of the Bible to use for this? :eyes:
