The Santa Cruz County Environmental Health Service issued a warning Friday about the water quality at Watsonville's Pinto Lake. The lake has been posted with signs warning against swimming or allowing pets to swim in the water because of toxic algae. "Pinot Lake has a type of algae known to produce toxins, which have caused several dog deaths in Humboldt County. Humans can be adversely affected by respiratory problems, itchy skin, or gastrointestinal problems. The public is advised to avoid body contact with the water at Pinto Lake," According to the warning. Pinto Lake is located at 451 Green Valley Rd. and has a playground, baseball diamond, picnic areas and 28 sites for recreational vehicle camping.)
