Iowa Voter Sculpts Life-Size Bust of Obama. . in BUTTER!
Edited on Thu Dec-27-07 11:38 PM by Cheney Killed Bambi
OK, I like Obama. In fact, I'm very enthusiastic about Obama. And I know Obama causes lots of level headed people to swoon. But this is ridiculous:

While presidential hopefuls were trying to butter up supporters ahead of the January 3 Iowa caucus, one would-be voter was literally buttering up her favorite candidate, Democratic Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.

Norma Lyon, 78, a dairy farmer from Toledo, Iowa, used 23 pounds of butter to sculpt a life-sized bust of Obama, who is seeking to become the first black U.S. president.

1. Butter sculptures are this sort of weird Midwest tradition.
They do them at the Minnesota State Fair, too. Yuk.

2. That's the Butter Cow Lady
She sculpts things out of butter to display at the Iowa State Fair. She started with a butter cow and did a Harry Potter once too.

3. Upon hearing news of the sculpture....
Team Hillary immediately dispatched an assault team of 12 Hillbots armed with butane-powered hair dryers to melt the high-cholesterol Obama likeness.

Obama in Butter

By Cate Doty

TOLEDO, Iowa – He’s like buttah.

Barack Obama arrived at the South Tama County Middle School auditorium tonight to deliver the stump speech that he debuted this morning, and to woo Toledo’s undecideds. But the bonus of this stump stop – both for the candidate and his weary press corps – was what he called a “butter bust of Obama:” a likeness of his distinctive head in butter, perched on a table underneath a basketball goal.

Before launching into his speech, Mr. Obama made sure to thank the artist, Duffy Lyon, known in these parts as the “Butter Cow Lady” for her life-sized butter cows at the Iowa State Fair that draw presidential hopefuls for photo ops. In October, Ms. Lyon, who was in the crowd tonight, endorsed the senator and appeared in a radio ad for him.

Tonight, Mr. Obama pointed her out in the crowd and called her an “important dignitary.”

“I hope you didn’t make my ears too big,” he said.

She didn’t.
