"...the man who killed Osama bin Ladin" - Bhutto statement Nov 02 to David Frost
Edited on Fri Dec-28-07 05:20 AM by autorank
While being interviewed by David Frost on Nov 02, 2007, Benazir Bhutto referred to "the man who killed
Osama bin Ladin."
She was talking about warnings she'd received that her life was at risk. She also
named those who were reported to be threatening her.

"Yes, well one of them is a very key figure in security. He's a former military officer. He's someone who's had dealings... and he also had dealings with Omar Sheikh (Ahmad Omar Saeed Sheikh), the man who murdered Osama bin Laden." (6:00 or so in the tape)

DUer Gateley posted a thread in Political Videos. At that point, the discussion indicated tha it was probably a slip of the tongue.

That seems reasonable since nothing much has come of the statement since then.

HOWEVER, consider this. She made the statement, David Frost, no slouch as a reporter, failed to challenge it. This deserves follow up. I'm sure that Frost will weigh in on this. Could be nothing but the only alternative to that is, a stunning story.

Excellent interview. Quite a leader.

2. That is really strange.
The way she pauses and says "uh" before saying OBLs name too...It doesn't have the characteristics of a usual quick slip up. Very weird.

3. I'm a Frost watcher on this one.

He will have to say something about this and he will. He's not your typical blow dried tee vee
journalist is hie?

Also, Pearl, who was a real hero journalist, and bin Ladin are so different, why that mistake.

He picked up on the death metaphors after his hunting trip. He laid out the phesants (a second class chicken) before the cameras and made some quip comparing the birds to his opponents. He's a very twisted guy.

6. If it's a slip of the tongue,
it's one HELL of a slip. She was talking about arguably the world's most wanted man being murdered! No, that doesn't pass the smell test.

I have a diary about it over at dKos -- a surprising 72% of those who took the poll believe OBL is dead.

10. They can no longer engineer the Truth. Ask any prosecutor what % of crimes are conspiricies.

She or he will tell you, almost all the big ones.

So those who refer to this administration accurately as a "criminal operation" need to do the
trickle down two step and look at the evidence.

Nice eye opener;)

On edit Ray McGovern knows.

12. And Bob Baer...
who Sy Hersh called the CIA's best undercover field officer:

I would find it very difficult to believe the CIA would deliberately destroy evidence material to the 9/11 investigation, evidence that would cover up a core truth, such as who really was behind 9/11. On the other hand I have to wonder what space-time continuum the CIA exists in, if they weren't able to grasp what a field day the 9/11 conspiracy theorists are going to have with this — especially at a time when trust for the government is plumbing new depths.

I myself have felt the pull of the conspiracy theorists — who believe that 9/11 was an inside job, somehow pulled off by the U.S. government. For the record, I don't believe that the World Trade Center was brought down by our own explosives, or that a rocket, rather than an airliner, hit the Pentagon. I spent a career in the CIA trying to orchestrate plots, wasn't all that good at it, and certainly couldn't carry off 9/11. Nor could the real pros I had the pleasure to work with.

Still, the people who think 9/11 was an inside job might easily be able to believe that Abu Zubaydah named his American accomplices in the tape that has now been destroyed by the CIA. (Link)

For someone who used to brief Poppy Bush, McGovern has been a great voice for the reality-based community.

I hope Mushie has prepared his Mausoleum as well as Benazir prepared her own (her father's really) because he's next. New army chiefs in Pakistan usually take out the old ones.

That's a very good point. But were we not told that bin Laden was the 'bad apple' and the rest, like the family flown out after 9/11, were just fine.

I'll go give it another look.

28. Yeah - maybe the rest of the world already knows this -- it's just us who
keep being told that OBL is alive and continuing to plot against us.

In my opinion, she was very precise in saying that about OBL. And she certainly didn't seem to slip up on anything else she was saying -- I doubt if she'd slip up on OBL being killed....

The thing is there are photos surfacing with Benazir and Thatcher and poppy Bush so they'll have a hard time describing her as 'not credible re this one. She's always been one of them.

This should be fun.
