Pakistani security forces have been given permission to shoot violent protesters on sight in an attempt to contain the unrest that has grown since the former prime minister was declared dead at around 6pm yesterday.

Pakistani officials issued the shoot on sight order after unidentified gunmen killed a policeman and wounded three other people in Karachi.

"Yes, shoot on sight anybody who wants to damage the life of innocent citizens and public property," Akhtar Zaman, the provincial interior minister, told Reuters.

6. I'd just like to point out something

30 people died in violence yesterday over there. There are mass riots going on over there. When that happens anywhere in the world, law enforcement is forced to take this action.

It's a horrible situation out of control.
