Police abandoned security posts before Bhutto assassination...
No autopsy performed on body; docs say bullet wounds not found

Police abandoned their security posts shortly before Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto's assassination Thursday, according to a journalist present at the time, and unanswerable questions remain about the cause of her death, because an autopsy was never performed.

Pakistan's Interior Minister on Friday said that Bhutto was not killed by gunshots, as had been widely reported, and doctors at Rawalpindi General Hospital, where she died, say there were no bullet marks on the former prime minister's body, according to India's IBNLive.com. Furthermore, according to the news agency, there was no formal autopsy performed on Bhutto's body before she was buried Friday.

3. these things worry us, yes? i agree with you from a previous thread...
one does not need to be an expert reader of many-many words on a subject to have a view upon it where common sense will suffice; neither do i need to break my arm to know it's likely gonna hurt

but these sort of lack-of-nuance is disturbing to me and i do i blame flat-out this cheney/nixon's ghost/bush/bfee/rove/matalin/RNC/republican admin for their efforts in dumbing down the entire world view

it's a sadness this day, Czarina

5. Yeah, this caught my attention when I heard it on the radio
That and the fact that the witness reported that she was shot twice by a sniper and THEN the bomber detonated. My money is on Musharref's government being involved in the assassination. Musharref does not want to lose control of anything so he took out his most potent competition.

20. that was my first thought when I read this . . .
I've seen the film of the Secret Service agents being pulled from the bumper stands on the presidential limo just before it departed for the trip through Dallas . . . pretty convincing stuff . . .

10. Does everybody already know that two of Sharif's people were killed
the same day at a rally? I don't see anyone mentioning it.

Another interesting thing: Tariq Ali just explained why the Pakistani army isn't more active in the tribal regions by way of explaining why they aren't opening fire on the crowds right now. They have been trained that India is the enemy, that the Hindu is the enemy. So, they are more likely to surrender to Taliban forces than to fight them.

this is a world teetering on the precipice of chaos and before anyone jumps in and asserts that it is in a state of chaos let me just suggest here quickly...we have not seen the worst of this this world is capable of vast ignorance, blood thirsty death *and* chaos

hey, Beth, see you have some weather over there today :hi:

14. Yes, two of Sharif's people at a different event.
And, Ali seems to think that it wasn't Musharif but other players high up in the government. He said, the US gave him the task of working out this deal and, "he blew it".

I haven't seen the weather. What's going on? :hi:

15. Musharif does not seem in day to day minute to minute control of Pakistan...
he scurries within circles of para-military', para-para-military', the army, intel, inside/outside forces all plotting; now "intercepted messages" from Al-Q touting, bragging...that one could have been predicted by either one of us but there that is and to what end? i often think we are the bogeymen, we are our own worst enemy, for allowing our government to behave with no sense of common good, common goal

looks like rain, take your umbrella :)

"Police officers had frisked the 3,000 to 4,000 people attending Thursday's rally when they entered the park, but as the speakers from Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party droned on, the police abandoned many of their posts."
