For Valo(u)r or "Good Conduct"? British, Canadian, and American Hono(u)rs Systems and the Primaries
Edited on Fri Dec-28-07 02:36 PM by CorpGovActivist
At the end of this primary season, I'd rather have a "medal" for valo(u)r than for good conduct, wouldn't you?

One of my favo(u)rite bumper stickers: "Well-behaved women rarely make history."

The http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_honors_system">British honours system is one I've studied since I was 8. It includes some pretty inane trinkets, as well as some that are considered quite weighty; ditto the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_honours_system">parallel Canadian honours system.

We Yanks do it a bit differently: we have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilian_decorations_of_the_United_States">civilian honors and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Awards_and_decorations_of_the_United_States_military">military honors distinctly separated.

One of my favo(u)rite - blech, and very dusty - trinkets cites: "demonstrated ability to understand and respond to the issues which face the United States in its Third Century."

No, I will not be earning any good conduct trinkets in this war. Those angling to be Deputy Assistant Watercarrier to the Underchief of Staff for Circumlocution may want their tin foil gold stars collection completed during the campaign. Not me.

1. "And This Here Is My Iowa Hawkeye Medal...
... awarded for helping explode the inevitability meme in 2008," said the faithful progressive to his/her grandson.

Now, that said, I've got to say that you've always been polite, although "**********" (I'll prolly forget what the word was... )

3. If You Define "Good Conduct"...
... as blind deference, nope.

If you define "good conduct" as "good citizenship," then yes, I suppose you could say so.

You were in the Navy, right? Do decorations for valor trump good conduct ribbons?

8. "You've Always Been Polite"...
... that reminds me of one of the trademark qualities of an ENTJ (they scare the be-HAY-sus out of me):

http://www.google.com/search?q=%22sorry+i+have+to+kill+you%22+entj&hl=en&filter=0">"I'm terribly sorry I have to kill you," is one of the stock phrases that characterize the type.

Don't get in one's way unless you know what you're doing: http://typelogic.com/entj.html.
