Bush To Veto Defense bill article . . .

Congressional Democratic leaders House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the administration should have raised its objections earlier.

"It is unfortunate that the president will not sign this critical legislation," they said in a statement. "Instead, we understand that the president is bowing to the demands of the Iraqi government, which is threatening to withdraw billions of dollars invested in U.S. banks if this bill is signed."

Who does that Chimp work for anyways?

And Pelosi and Reid ought to throw impeachment right up on the table (they won't) THIS minute. Now he's clearly pandering to Iraqis while Americans don't have something as simple as Universal Health Care and the rights guaranteed them in the US Constitution. I hate that fucker.

Hey loser. Get a job and your own damn health care. Why should I have to pay for yours? I don't recall a guarantee for health insurance in the constitution. And by the way no one in this country is denied health care (not even illegals) it's just that you sorry bastards want someone else to pay for it. Grow up and start pulling your own weight cause you people are sure getting heavy for the rest of us!

27. Since you're probably a Republican, and therefore probably
a "Christian", here are some nice Bible quotes for you to chew on:

Deuteronomy 15:7, 11
If there is a poor man among your brothers in any of the towns of the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward your poor brother. There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.

Leviticus 23:22
When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God.

Proverbs 11:24-25
One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

Proverbs 14:21
He who despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is he who is kind to the needy.

Proverbs 14:31
He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.

Proverbs 19:17
He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done.

Proverbs 21:13
If a man shuts his ears to the cry of the poor, he too will cry out and not be answered.

Proverbs 22:9
A generous man will himself be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.

Proverbs 28:27
He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.

Proverbs 31:8-9
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Isaiah 1:17
Learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.

Happy HOlidays! :hi:

that was Benjamin Franklin, not Thomas Jefferson, and the quote had nothing to do with the subject at hand. And I truly hope you and your family never need assistance in the future. Some people cannot even take advantage of "opportunity" due to physical or mental handicap, others are sometimes not permitted for reasons of bigotry.

Remember, we all do well when we all do well.

38. Oops your right about BF vs TJ
Thought that was it but sounded more Jeffersonian so I overruled myself.. I agree there are many who cannot access all the opportunities but surely you have to believe that we have numerous programs already in place to assist them. I'm referring to able bodied (and sound mind) individuals who for some reason believe this country owes them. Agreed we all do well when we all do well, and that is what I wish for everyone. Do you know of anyone on welfare who is happy? I am simply saying that as long as we continue to provide a way for people to achieve less than they are capable of, to simply exist vs participate in the American dream we are doing them and this country a disservice. We are AMERICANS we should expect better of ourselves and our fellow citizens. Thanks for the non-name calling and coherent response.

42. All of the people I personally know
Edited on Fri Dec-28-07 05:24 PM by hippywife
who receive some kind of assistance are the working poor. I work in a retirement center with a nursing home. All of the people that do the hard work, like wiping asses, cleaning up puke, and basically physically taking care of these people, do so for very little pay. Many times, they can't even afford the $20 co-pay to take their kids to the doctor when they're sick, they can't afford to be sick themselves, at all. It's that way everywhere, all over the country in most every kind of business. If all of those people stopped working, this country would grind to a halt.

Programs to help the poor and disabled dwindle with every year, at both the state and federal level.

Please be thankful for what you do have because it never lasts.

44. A valid point
And just as with the teaching profession people who do these jobs should and would be honored by society and rewarded accordingly if not for Govt. involvment which has totally bastardized the system. I believe the people who teach my kids (WELL) should start at no less than a six figure income as should those who care for the elderly and infirmed. Do you ever ask yourself why they don't? Could it be that the free market is not allowed to work in these areas? Society will pay for the areas of greatest need and value if given a chance.

51. It's because people in this country
really believe that one day they, too, can be ridiculously wealthy even when the odds are stacked against them. This country places a premium on who can rake in the most bucks, not those who add a premium to our society. That is the free market economy working in spades.

49. That would be a good theory
if that were the way it worked. When people on the lower rungs of the ladder have to decide between medicine and food for their families while CEO's walk away with bonuses in the double-digit millions, even when they totally screw things up, there is decidedly a problem here. How much more is one person's life worth over another? How much money does one person need to live, even somewhat nicely?

And it's usually the people who do the hard work no one else wants to do who draw the short salaries. I would love to see a general strike called, and actually take place, in this country. Then we'd see who's really worth what.

Unfortunately, I don't think that will be possible with you. You tell us you don't want a bunch of name-calling and then go on to talk about "a bunch of non-working losers" after accusing us of being "people with your hands out."

I don't waste time debating people who can only spout poorly spelled right-wing talking points and can't even quote Benjamin Franklin correctly.

You have a point? Can I choose to NOT have my tax dollars go to Iraq? Let's see - my estimated tax I will be paying by April 15th will be about $53K per year - more than you are probably making.

How about I contribute that to inner city and rural schools while you go fund the Chimps war in Iraq.

My friend - you are NOT a progressive. And my dear sweet heart dad (just came home from Christmas) thinks people who don't worship at the altars of Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy and LBJ are severely mentally deficient.

56. How about this
There was a time when my family was on public assistance. My father was a truck driver that went blind. Thanks to GI bill, SS and other public money he was able to go to school and get a masters in economics. Got a high paying job and more than paid back that money in taxes.
When he passed away when I was still a kid we got other public money. My mom worked and did what she could to put my brother and I through college. We have more than paid back that money in taxes.
That is why I have no qualms about paying my SHARE of taxes. I can afford it and I'll get it all back in a better, more caring, society.

"The moral test of government is how it treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the aged; and those in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped."

18. I pay for my own insurance.
The price doubles every six months. I am never sick. This has happened with every insurance company I've tried. Unless I start working a second job (not possible with my schedule) I will soon have no coverage. Hard as I might work, I can't control how high the companies are allowed to jack up their prices.

If you find that acceptable, you're an idiot. And what might you suggest for the children of this country? Should they all go find jobs too? Or should we just let them die?

Fucker.

I mean - if you think poor children in America were stupid enough to be born poor and therefore should just die - don't you extend that to a bunch of :sarcasm: foreigners?:sarcasm:

And does the TheRight1 mean that you are firmly ensconced on the right?

Who you voting for in the Primary? The Ghoul? Romney? Huckster? McCain? The Crypt Keeper? Why? What's the core of their policies that you find most appealing?
