Update on wingnut FIL visit. All went well, thank God

No mention of politics. He did start going on about Muslims, but I was able to redirect. My son (remember, he spat at my FIL 4 years ago) said he still didn't remember him. Sad, to my 7 year old, this was the first time his grandfather visited him. Oh well, sigh of relieve.

On another note - my FIL seemed very happy. Don't know if he's on meds, but he and his wife came to our house straight from a gun show in Fort Worth. Maybe that had something to do with his good behavior tonight, lol.

Sigh. Now about your wife, the dutiful eldest daughter.

I am one of those too, and I wasted untold years of my life trying to make my mother be the grandmother to my kids that I wanted her to be. (Insert long story of not-so-blissful dysfunctionality here.)

May I suggest in the kindest way possible that your wife have a spot of therapy? -- It might help her release her asshole father with clarity, without rancor, and without guilt. Sometimes it helps to talk it over with an outside objective person.

I'm glad he behaved himself on this pass. Maybe his meds have been effectively adjusted after all, or maybe gun shows give him that post-coital mellowness. And maybe there's no real need for him to come back to your home.
