because it was. Like him or dislike him but DON'T denigrate his military service just because it wasn't on the front lines. Reagan didn't have to join the Army Reserves in 1938 but he did, Reagan didn't have to server during the war( legitimate medical reason not to) but he did, Reagan didn't have to remain in the Army Reserves until he was passed over for promotion and forced to resign but he did.

Did a decent job as president of the Screen Actors Guild
Capable of considerable personal charm
Actually, not a bad actor in small roles (i.e. commercials)
None of his children look likely to run for office
