CNN anchor on Brittney Spears in rehab story:
"You know, we sit around in our news briefings and we say 'We're JOURNALISTS! Why do we have to discuss things like this!!!" - just now.

So, evidently our gentle anchorpeople are not any more pleased than you or I are that cable news has become "infotainment".

2. So.. stop talking about it already... OR start doing stories
that question why people are more interested in fluffy stuff, instead of stuff that's important to their actual lives?

6. She really made it sound like the on-air personality hands are tied
Whoever is cobbling together what passes for "news" needs a new job.

10. You just got a look into the looking glass
or through it

Think about this... who pays for most of the commercials on prime time?

So ask yourself this question... do you think them folks (and I am talking of Raytheon, General Electric et al) want the anchor people covering thigns like oh... the Plame Affair?

Nope

So this is why we also need to get much of the cash out of the media and... break the media corporations into itty little pieces, where Britney will be the fluff story, worst case, at the end of the news cast, and not lead it... best case, be relegated to the E-Channel, where it can and probably should lead the newscast. but that is becuase it BELONGS in there

Edited on Tue Feb-20-07 08:36 PM by AX10
How about some real news?

For those who don't get it, this comment is directed at those who run these networks.

9. She just did.
It is the first time I have heard a protestation from one of the talking heads. Maybe they are growing weary of National Enquirer cable news?

11. They focus on show biz crap for two reasons:
Edited on Tue Feb-20-07 08:45 PM by LibDemAlways
1. Ratings - celebrity gossip boosts ratings which boosts ad revenue.

2. It serves as a distraction from the important issues the corporate news bosses want to stay away from - like anything that casts the Bush Crime Family in a negative light - which is just about everything else.

Never forget that the people who bring us the corporate news make big money and want to keep as much of it as possible. They have a vested interest in pushing the repuke agenda. Ultimately, it all comes down to $$$$$$$.

And the anchors are expendable. If someone fails to tow the party line, they'll be gone. Olbermann is an exception only because his ratings are so good. Apparently the powers that be leave him alone because he's generating enough revenue to overcome any qualms they may have about his politics.
