Edwards has back to wall in Iowa race
In his angry campaign speeches, John Edwards vows to fight as president for millions of ordinary Americans whose futures are threatened by 'corporate greed.' But it's his own future that is in jeopardy right now...

Edwards has his back to the wall in tomorrow night's Iowa caucuses, the first voter test...Unlike Sens. Clinton and Obama...he's pouring almost everything into this state...

Without an Iowa victory, Edwards advisers have privately acknowledged, his chances of wining the Democratic nomination could all but disappear...

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/nation

looks like the media will not accept even a strong second place showing for Edwards in Iowa.

1. Overly harsh tone, but the writer is correct that an Iowa win is a necessity for Edwards.
Hell, even with a win, he'll still have a fight ahead of him. Without it, his campaign's future looks kinda grim.

2. We'll see what inspires people more:
"In it to win it", anger and negativity, or hope, change, and healing.

5. You can't heal a dirty sore. You need to clean it first so that
it won't become infected. Our nation has a dirty sore in D.C. It needs to be cleaned. Edwards is the person to clean it. Then Obama or someone can come in to heal. But there will be no healing until D.C. is cleaned up.

7. Well wienerdoggie...
I hate to say it, but Edwards will win Iowa. I would be thrilled to see it play out otherwise, but Edwards already had a strong base from 2004 that he's managed to build upon...and no one seems to notice that his message has done a 180 from 2004.
Maybe I'll go to caucus and it will be Dean revisited..but I don't think so. Prepare for Edwards to win, and hopefully Obama can pull second.

14. He may. I'm not counting him out. I do hope Obama comes in second, though.

15. I think he will..
if any of the top three are going to be dislogded, it will be Hillary, and I don't say that to be critical of her, I just believe that's the way it will play out. Edwards, Obama, Dark Horse (hopefully Biden), Hillary.

3. Why do they keep calling his speeches "angry"?
I haven't seen all of them by any means, but in the clips I have seen I certainly wouldn't have called him "angry".

Am I missing something?

9. Hell, I'm angry. I want someone else to be angry, too. But I see him as
impassioned, not angry.

18. The stupid media may actually be doing him a favor.
A lot of people in this country are angry, and have been wanting someone to take on and attack what Edwards is going after and has been so allegedly "angry" about. They think they are destroying his chances, but they may very well be helping him at the same time. People in this country are past pissed at what has been going on the last seven years in our 'Corporate Government.'

Hopefully the voters in this country won't be brainwashed into voting for the two other selections provided for them by the 'Powers That Be.'

11. "Angry" is just a way to try and discredit him
A lot of people probably think that "anger" is something that only belongs in campaigns in divided, shaky foreign countries.

13. it's pure-D SPIN
Trying to put a negative spin to John's message. Hasn't worked yet - but some people cannot learn from their mistakes.

6. Yes, which is why Kucinich asked his caucus supporters to second ballot
for Obama if Kucinich doesn't make the 15% cut.

Kucinich will stay in the race and if Edwards drops out after Iowa, that helps Kucinich.

8. "He's pourning almost everything into this state."
Isn't Joe Trippi his campaign manager? Oy vey! This does NOT bode well. Trippi did EXACTLY the same thing with Dean in 2004 -- spent EVERYTHING in Iowa so there was not much left to keep the campaign going.

20. he's not, in fact, he's under a spending cap
he is pouring alot of his time there and future donations could shrink but a strong second would still be fine. Whoever ends up third will be the most weakened.

wouldn't approve her liver transplant in time to save her life. He also seemed angry when he talked about James Lowe--the guy who couldn't speak for 50 years because he had no way to pay to for surgery to fix his cleft palate.

Lord knows if those types of things make one angry--then he must be an angry person.

12. I'm no Edwards supporter, but that angry meme the press is endlessly parroting
sure does rub me the wrong way. Why couldn't they use the word "passionate" or "tough" or any number of other more accurate descriptive words? But aside from that, I believe that Edwards was done the moment he accepted public financing for the primary. He's pouring everything he's got into Iowa and NH. By the time he gets to Super Tuesday, he will have run through almost all his resources.

16. I'm angry too. I'd be concerned about a candidate who wasn't

at least to some degree. Angry and fired-up to get us out of this miserable ditch we've been in for awhile now.
