Leading Economists are endorsing John Edwards in a Press Release from the Edwards Campaign dated today.

Economists pick Edwards because he will fight for sustained growth, full employment and an end to poverty

Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Today, the John Edwards for President campaign announced that more than 30 leading U.S. economists have endorsed John Edwards for president. "Economists for John Edwards" includes such notable scholars as James K. Galbraith from the University of Texas at Austin; Deirdre McCloskey from the University of Illinois at Chicago; Thomas Palley, founder of the Economics for Democratic & Open Societies Project; Clyde Prestowitz, president of the Economic Strategies Institute; Harley Shaiken from the University of California, Berkeley; and Edward Wolff from New York University.

I suppose they are.

I bet each major candidate brandishes a list like this of "leading economists" what makes these guys more important?

3. well..THAT settles the economic argument
You'd think most Americans would trust the intuition about who would be best for their economic interest to the leader economists...but no...they'd rather vote for the guy who they'd like to have a beer with, and who hates gays...like they do.

9. except as mentioned up thread - every candidate could get 30 "leading" economomists
I am impressed that Krugman supports him. I've read Krugman for years and love how he can make complicated issues clear. But, there are economists, whose names and works I know and respect behind each of the Democrats. Like Krugman, I give their endorsement more weight than these "leading -----" announcements, where ---- is any profession or demographic.

6. An impressive list to say the least. This is great news. My son is an econ major so
I'll share this with him. His school isn't listed, one of his econ profs is a former Bush econ team member. Ugh.
