Bush considered firing Mukasey?
I just found this on Capitol Hill Blue at http://www.capitolhillblue.com/cont/node/4135:

Angry Bush will stonewall CIA probe

Orders White House aides to stall investigators

President George W. Bush tried to stop Attorney General Michael Mukasey from launching a criminal investigation into the Central Intelligence Agency’s destruction of tapes showing torture of a prisoner and has ordered top White House officials to stonewall the probe, Capitol Hill Blue has learned.

Bush is reportedly “livid” that Makasey went ahead with the investigation and even discussed firing the attorney general but senior administration officials talked the President out of taking an action that would add fuel to suspicions of a cover-up.

While the administration may put on a public face of cooperation, the White House will take a tough stance from prosecutors who will seek interviews with current and former administration officials who participated in a meeting where destruction of the videotapes was discussed.

White House insiders describe the President’s mood as “dour” and “resigned” to the implications of a Justice Department investigation but legal observers in Washington believe the administration can successfully stall the probe and doubt the effectiveness of an administration trying to examine its own criminal behavior.

1. I'm still skeptical
I wouldn't put it past the WH to put on a *bread and circuses* display to keep the viewing public from keeping a keen eye on this *investigation*. Especially if the investigation should eventually lead to the WH.

3. I haven't read capitol hill blue in eons (since doug tompson
had some sort of melt-down). But they were the first, I beleive, to report the statement now taken as fact by much of the public, that Bush referred to the Constitution as toilet paper with which he could wipe his ass...

5. White House officials to stonewall the probe
what else is new? will the probe go anywhere? probably not, and if there are indictments they will be directed at the janitor who cleaned out the trashcan full of destroyed tapes...

wake me when the impeachments start

6. I don't know - sure it's "just" Capitol Hill Blue but still
this is bush they're talkin about and he is perfectly capable of acting against his long term best interests just to satisfy a juvenile urge for vengeance. Look at Iraq.

Actually I kinda wish he'd fire Mukasey. It'd be his Saturday Night Massacre and it might convince everybody that he's finally moved into Nixonland. And it might make congress finally wake the fuck up and start to do what we all know they need to do.

9. You know the one thing the 911 Commissions didn't say - but should have
esp given indication of Wh collaboration, or at least knowledge of, the evidence and then the destruction of said evidence, they should have said: "It is now clear that the WH was never interested in the probe actually leading to anything, it was not geared to learn and make America safter, it is now clear that the WH was only interested in giving an appearance of concern and in covering up wrong-doings."

12. In our dreams. I'm know I'm an old cynical bastard
but to me its all Kabuki theater. Just like the 200 theft, just like 9/11, just like Iraq, how the hell did I know what was going on years before it was revealed. I remember the 9/11 commission matter quite well. The chimp fought like hell to quash any investigation, then he tried to put Kissinger as the director, then he settled for Zelikow (?). The ONLY honest member of the panel was Max Cleland, the GA senator who resigned in disgust. Then chimpy can only talk with Dick's arm up his ass. At every step of the process it is abundantly clear what they're hiding and why, but it seems to be a mystery to the people who can do something about it.

Do NOT trust this latest nonsense from Hamilton and Kean. If they wanted the truth in the first place, it has always been abundantly available. You just gotta want it.
