File under: "Where are they now?" - Shannen W. Coffin (Cheney toady)

"He rejoins the firm after having served most recently as the Counsel to the Vice President of the United States – the chief legal adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney and the general counsel to the Office of the Vice President.

Mr. Coffin also served previously as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Division of the United States Department of Justice, responsible for management and oversight of the Civil Division’s Federal Programs Branch, a major litigating component of the Justice Department.

A 1994 graduate summa cum laude of Georgetown University Law Center, Mr. Coffin previously clerked for Judge David B. Sentelle on the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C.

and my favortie part:

Mr. Coffin served as Counsel to the Vice President from 2005 to 2007. In that capacity he handled the full range of legal issues affecting the Vice Presidency and the Office of Vice President (OVP), a small quasi-agency of the federal government. Mr. Coffin provided legal advice to the Vice President and his staff on constitutional, national security, regulatory and related policy issues. He coordinated the Office of Vice President’s response to congressional investigations and to litigation in both trial and appellate courts. He participated in the inter-agency process on behalf of the OVP with respect to a range of federal regulation and legislation."

a "small quasi-agency"

Doncha love it?

The office of the VP is a "small quasi-agency"

9. I was being snarky
per the idea that the guy gave such "good" constitutional advice - and they were forced off of that particularly embarassing position, IIRC when some Dem senators suggested questioning exec branch funding for the office of the VP if indeed that office was not part of the exec. branch.

I think that they had just got so used to noone even questioning their asisinine rationales for doing things that they were truely caught off guard when the position was made public - and then roundly ridiculed.

11. I am glad you posted this thread. What we didn't *get* in 1992
was how assiduously these folks kept working on their toxic agendas, even when out of power, so they could quickly come in and put their schemes into place without missing a beat.

And the recycling of bad players. How many Iran Contra retreads has bush put into foreign policy related positions?

14. I've been trying to keep up with them
I keep a list who "resigns" and then keep checking for their names to come back around in the news...see where they go.

And I agree with you...we need to keep watch. That revolving door gets us every time.

12. Well after the fire at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building...
I'd imagine that the 'clutter' at the office turned it into a "small(er) quasi-agency'

13. Clerked for David Sentelle
Got right on the greased tracks straight out of Georgetown, didn't he? And now he goes to a sinecure to collect a fat paycheck until he can slither back into the government.

16. "A small quasi-agency." They are too modest.
That's the 4th branch of government - the only one still functioning.
Kick.
