How do you respond to a repuke boss?
The owner's wife of company where my DH works (and where a good portion of the staff are repukes) told my husband to STOP TALKING POLITICS with another Democrat early this morning.

About 1/2 hour ago, he received this email from the controller of the company...
In a news conference Deanna Favre announced she will be the starting QB
for the Packers this coming Sunday. Deanna asserts that she is qualified
to be starting QB because she has spent the past 16 years married to
Brett while he played QB for the Packers. During this period of time she
became familiar with the definition of a corner blitz, and is now
completely comfortable with other terminology of the Packers offense. A
survey of Packers fans shows that 50% of those polled supported the
move.

Does this sounds idiotic and unbelievable to you? Well, Hillary Clinton
makes the same claims as to why she is qualified to be President and 50%
of democrats polled agreed. She has never run a City, County, or State.

When told Hillary Clinton has experience because she has 8 years in the
white house, Dick Morris stated 'so has the pastry chef'.

How does he make it known that the company should be fair and make ALL the people in the company should STOP TALKING POLITICS?

Arghhhh!!!!

1. Does this company have a HR department?
If so that's the first place to register a complaint.

6. It's still the department to go to
If it were me I'd point out how the email was a waste of work resources and time. I'd also make the point that since politics are such a personal issue it could be very easy to create an atmosphere that is not conducive of productivity if discussions of such were to continue to be permitted, be that discussion electronically, orally or in writing.

18. Let's not encourage an delusion that HR's job is to support the employee.
That's a common misconception of those repeatedly made fools of by the "Good Cop/Bad Cop" scam. HR's job is to PROTECT MANAGEMENT from legal actions by employees. They're "Damage Control Central" in any company. As a manager, they advised me of the steps I'd have to take to fire an employee without exposing the company - and they cared not the slightest about protecting any employee. That's part of their job.

In some of the worst companies in which I've worked, they facilitated "building a case" (falsehoods) to get rid of whistle-blowers - before they actually qualified under the law as whistle-blowers. Most employees don't know what the legal qualifications are. Reporting wrongdoing INSIDE the company (e.g. HR) does NOT qualify.

Beware of thinking HR wears a "white hat" - they don't.

3. My GM is a huge bu$hbot
Just don't talk politics when in his company.
This guy is so deep in the bu$h love that he has an 8X10 of bu$h and his boots on his desk and none of his family.

Just don't get in conversations about politics where that person might get involved. Remember they are the boss.

4. Turn that letter in to human resources
with a complaint that the sender is wasting his own time as well as your husband's while making a hostile working environment for people who disagree with him on political matters.

It's bad form to talk politics at work, anyway, unless you're on your lunch hour and somebody else asks. You're not getting paid for that lunch hour, so your time is your own, there.

In any case, negative campaign literature sent out on company equipment during company time should be an FEC violation of some sort. That's always a complaint of last resort.

Yes Mr/Mrs. Backwhipper (or whatever name), you are absolutely right! Hillary doesn't have any experience running a state or country. What are we to do? Oh' the sky is falling! Will noone come and save us from her evil breast influenced siezure of our great nation which George W Bush (God bless him and and his glorious bloodthirsty war to rid the world of brown people who have our oil) has saved from the damnation of Hillary's evil husband's wayward penis, by ridding us of our civil rights, which we didn't need anyway?

Who will save us? Rudy Guliani can't because he wore drag and cheated on his wife, just like Bill Clinton did, so you of course wouldn't support him just like you didn't President Clinton...right? Mike Huckabee raised taxes and wants everybody to worship the almighty (who loves George W Bush more than the rest of us. God Bless George W Bush, our President, Leader and Savior!) only his way. We have to find the rest of Mitt Romney's wives (because he's mormon you know, and everybody knows all mormons have extra wives just laying around) to find out if there's enough rooom in the White House for all of them. John McCain will probably die in office since he's so old he's going senile and grouchy. She'll beat all of them. What are we to do? Oh' what, oh' what, oh' what?

She destroyes everything and everyone she targets! Look at Dick Morris! She personally made him go to a prostitute, clip her toenails and suck on her toes, and let him resign in shame as Clinton's political advisor, rather than have her take the blame for it. There is no end to the EVIL she is capable of! I mean destroying an innocent little man, who is so pitiful, like a garden gnome, that he had to resign to keep people from talking about him sucking the toes of a prostitute. He's now relegated to Fox News commentator, where he now has no career unless he's talking about Hillary Clinton and how evil, and power hungry she is (which she is, because the toe sucker said so). He has to spend all of his valuable time talking about her, he has no time to answer any questions about why he likes to suck the toes of prostitutes! My heart just breaks for the poor, toe sucking, garden gnome looking man. She's vile for letting him SUCK TOES on her watch over the White House. For Shame.

WEll, I guess since she's unstoppable, we'll just have to suck it up (like Dick Morris does with prostitute's toes) and accept our fate that America will be held hostage by this nasty, evil vixen with a vagina and blonde hair will be in COMPLETE control of our lives for 8 years. She will castrate all men, and destroy sports bars, so we better get hunkered down for a long, frigid woman winter because she can't be beat, and George W Bush (God bless his holiness and his smirk and his real cowboy accent, who is afraid of horses) can't run for another 4 years.

What are we to do? Will I have to turn myself in to a Vegetarian Grocer, Lesbian bookstore, or Toyota hybrid Dealership for re-education? God (who blesses George W Bush. THE President), everybody knows that she's a card carrying lesbian who cheated on Bill with Vince Foster, which is why Slick Willie got him murdered, and called it a suicide. And she does have a lesbian card. I've seen it at her political rally, when I tried not to shake her hand, but had to because she would've had me whacked. I felt a cold wind blow over me when she brushed by, and it wasn't because I was in Chicago in December. It was because of this card carrying lesbian who's also a cheating floozy with Vince Foster. If Vince had lived. she would've cheated on him too with a real lesbian woman, forcing him to go to prostitutes and suck toes. She loved Vince Foster, even though she's a lesbian (with a card) because that's the kind of cold, calculating harpy she is!

Please Boss! Tell us we are going to be alright! I fear for America and the vaginalization of it!

14. Not necessarily. I worded it specifically.
See it's called overt ass-kissing, or damned by faint praise. As long as you don't say anything directly contradictory, or insubordinate, most managers can't touch you, even if they know you're blowing smoke up their asses. You can get in trouble if you decide to pick a fight, but if you word it so that it's a smarmy agreement, then depending on how stupid you boss is (and let's face it, he can't be that sharp a knife if he's a repug), you just might get away with it.

At least in Union shops.;)

7. Give Them NO REASON To Fire You
Give your employer no reason to fire you.

If the boss's wife says to stop talking politics at work, then stop talking politics at work.

Do NOT rise to take the bait presented by the Comptroller's (on Controller's) email.

Just do your job, and do it well.

If you want to talk politics, do it here.

Or over a beer at the local pub. AFTER work.

If one of the very few Republican brokers is around we don't talk politics at all.

Religion and politics do not belong in the workplace. It is bad for business.

17. Politics, religion & sex should not be topics of conversation at work unless
you are a campaign employee, a minister or a sex therapist...

It's not appropriate for the boss to have sent the email, and that should be called to the attention of HR, but it might be wise to have several people sign onto the complaint message..and

it might be a good idea to look for a more pleasant workplace environment..

The email sounds very passive-aggressive to me, and to have to work with someone like that, must be a daily frustration

19. I would let it go
Assuming it's a job he likes/needs and he isn't punished or refused advancement due to his politics, I would stop talking politics, stop reading their inane e-mails and let it go. I doubt that taking a principled stand is going to get him very far with people like that.

20. Maintain a facade of doing my job while I run the company into the ground.
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 02:57 PM by dicksteele
Make a few "FYI" calls to progressive folks at companies we deal with,
"forget" to foreward the occasional message from RW-asshole companies,
drop an anonymous eMail or two to the local IRS branch office (with
copies of pertinent interoffice paperwork)

RW Repub assholes wanna scream "rule of law"? Then I'll play "rule of law",
hardball style.
Because I've never yet met one who wasn't a goddamn crooked weasle with
assloads of shit to hide.

Hoist the lying bastards by their own petards, and OH how they squeal!

21. Your husband could ask HR...
Your husband could ask HR (or even the boos in question), "Why is it inappropriate for me to discuss politics at work whilst simultaneously my co-workers and I are receiving politically oriented e-mails from management? I'm afraid I don't understand the relevant difference? I realize that there is no double-standard in place, but at present the only conclusion I can draw is that I'm not getting the same standard applied to all other employees."
