Woo hoo--my Repug husband said he's not voting this year!
Mr. MG, a staunch Repug (I know, I know, but his good qualities outweigh his unfortunate choice of political party), has told me he's not even registering to vote this year. He doesn't like ANYbody in the Repug lineup. O happy day!
:woohoo:

Now...can we convince a few million more Repugs to do the same?

1. that's my prayer
the Repukes stay home cuz they can't hold their noses tight enough to pull the lever for any of their choices and we win a landslide

5. Us too
It got pretty ugly for a while. Then we stopped talking about politics altogether. BushCo's treatment of New Orleans, our favorite city to visit (we've been five or six times), helped shut my husband up.

14. Well, I was apolitical when we met
I was young, ign'ant, etc. Hey, it was the Clinton era--things were going so well, why should I waste my time learning about politics?

I wised up fast. And by then I was pretty attached to the guy, so we managed.

OTOH, if I were single today, absolutely NOTHING could convince me to date a Repug. NOTHING.

9. They're running second and third stringers, that's why
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 12:24 PM by Warpy
The heavy hitters like Newt and even Jebbie are sitting this one out, knowing Stupid has queered the deal and they'd like nothing better than four years of a Democrat getting blamed for all Stupid's blunders (which are really blunders of GOP ideology, but they don't get that) so that they can roar back in 2012 and "save" the country. That's the strategy, anyway.

When Hucksterbible is the best they've got to offer, an itinerant preacher, faith healer and snake oil salesman who failed to bankrupt a reasonably solvent but poor state, you know they're in big trouble this election cycle.

This is probably the election cycle where the Reagan coalition of the super rich with the super religious finally breaks down, though. The cracks I've been noticing for the past 5 years are turning into chasms, and I've even talked to a couple of right wing party flacks who grudgingly admit there are "internal problems."

10. I suspected as much
I told DH that as well--that the Repugs are going to "let" the Dems win this term (read: ease off on the voter fraud so they don't steal another one) so they can whine for four years, and when elections come around again, they can say "See?! See?! They haven't fixed the country!" When everyone knows it's going to take DECADES to rectify the damage the Bush cabal has done.

12. Kind of an interesting turn of affairs...
Traditionally, low voter turnout helps Repubs.

Now, it's their own folks who can't be bothered.

17. I'm sorry to disagree, but as an American, it's his Civil Duty
to vote. This is a perfect opportunity to show him there is an alternative. I'm a huge proponent of democracy, which you can't have if there is no popular vote!

How is it that the government can make you pay taxes, but not make you vote?!

19. He'll vote
The repukes will put some kinda' state issue out... something like "Amendment to Ban Gay Immigrants from Marrying Turtles or Frogs". They'll find someway to get your hubby to the polls... either with a "hot button" issue or they'll call him up and tell him that (insert Dem name here) will make it legal for Gay Immigrants to marry turtles or frogs.
