4. Poverty in this country has always been one of my top issues.
I'm glad he continues to highlight it.

I haven't heard Obama highlight it.

12. And he speaks from his heart about it
That is what brought me over. He is the real thing regarding addressing poverty, and that is WAY past due in this country. He not only speaks my thoughts on that, he speaks for all who came before who did work to give me a better life. And that is exactly what I intend to do for my son. Any candidate who truly cares about helping me do that will see me fighting for them.

That speech brought me to tears. It was all about the people of the US, the poor, the under-represented, those without a voice. He is simply phenomenal.

18. That would be an outstanding endorsement if Gore would give it
I am still undecided precisely because I kept waiting on Gore to enter the race, but even I have given up hope for that now. If he really isn't running, Gore might be able to sway quite a few voters to one camp or another if he endorses before too much time passes. Otherwise, I think the momentum or lack thereof from the primaries probably takes care of it for him.

13. He was outstanding.
He was aware this would be the first time many hear him speak, i.e., many have not paid attention until now. He was smart to get his message across in an enthusiastic speech. Very impressive. I expect he will do well in NH.

14. yes, great timing in getting this important message out
It's about time. Over 37 million Americans will go to bed hungry tonight, most of them children... and as he stated, in the richest country in the world. We can most certainly do better than that.

15. Absolutely! Edwards gets it, he understands the other America...
and he is right, in America, we can do better. He speaks out against "corporate greed" and the hold that greed has on our government and our country. Edwards all the way.

33. Greed?
Isn't it a tad greedy to live in a gargantuan freakin' mansion like he does? If he doesn't like greed, he could certainly give all his money to all the unfortunate folks he highlights in his speeches.

Sorry, but I have a really tough time believing his sincerity on greed and poverty when he himself has chosen to live like a king.

Maybe it's the trial attorney in me, but all I can think when I see him speak is that he's doing a carefully crafted closing argument to score points.

40. no
Just no.

You are trotting out two false ideas here and carefully phrasing them in such a way that they seem credible.

First, that people who have been more fortunate cannot be concerned about the less fortunate and must be hypocrites or something. I don't suppose you are referring to Franklin Roosevelt or Jack Kennedy or Bobby Kennedy, are you?

Secondly, what candidate ever in any campaign was NOT trying to make his best argument and win people over?

So - no person who is more fortunate can be concerned for the plight of the less fortunate without you having a "real tough time believing in their sincerity?"

The logic of your supposed arguments is that only desperately impoverished people have the right to advocate for the poor, and that only those with poor speaking skills should make speeches, and that rather than lift the poor out of poverty the only way to be "sincere" about poverty is to impoverish oneself.

This is all of course highly illogical, and it is also an attempt at character assassination, but beyond that it betrays a callousness and indifference to the less fortunate. A "three-fer" you might say.

24. Mr. Edwards, now you need to let the American people know how you will address poverty...
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 06:44 AM by RestoreGore
By ending this war and bringing our troops home as soon as possible, and inspiring people to bring back the Democracy that has been so dessimated by those there now. Poverty and climate change are THE issues that are going to affect this country most and in turn affect education, healthcare, and all other crucial issues to the people of this country. We do not need to bomb countries to fight terrorism, and I am tired of hearing about it.

People want a CHANGE and they want to know that whoever stands up for them is standing up for THEM. Ending this war is standing up for them, our troops, and against the corporate interests who have run it from behind the scenes. I know you placed a vote for the resolution, but I believe you are contrite in admitting you were wrong about that. Let us then make amends for it and let us finally give the American people something to hope and vote for in this country... THEIR futures.

My father worked so hard as did yours for years, as did my own mother to give me a better life. I am not about to disappoint them now. I wish they were both here today for me to take care of, but they are not. However, I have a child and I am not disappointing him. So if you are truly willing to stand up for me who works hard, and for my husband who works so hard, and for my child, I will stand up for you.

Edwards is the ONLY candidate doing this. I can't understand it. I have some doubts because of his previous hawkishness and flip-flopping, but that pales in comparison to fighting for the ordinary citizen.

Some people consider them no different than the other Party.

Corporate Democrat or Corporate Republican = No difference.

38.  My primary was moved up this year...
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 06:07 PM by RestoreGore
it's usually in June when it doesn't even matter, which I think sucks. So I will be getting the word out about him here. In my last primary in 2004 in June I wrote in Al Gore because well, I love the man and because Kerry had already been crowned so it didn't hurt anything. This time however, with it being moved up it must be different in order to do what I can to help the one candidate actually giving a damn about the poor in this country.

41. Remember Venezuela!
When the poor stood up and voted in VZ, they overturned a whole established system. much like ours was ~ 2 parties more alike than different, elitist press, and a huge gap between the rich and the poor. 60% of eligible voters do not vote, most of them disenfranchised poor in both countries. This is why there is so much energy put into voter caging, low income harassment, few machines and fixed voting machines that do not tally the vote. They hope we will go away.

Stand up and say, "No way!"

Make sure the poor gets to the voting booth and you could see a revolution!
