Obama's mom from my neck of the woods - I know a gentleman quoted in this article
I was born and raised in El Dorado, Kansas and am very pleased to know that the region spawned other open-minded, thinking individuals instead of just redneck freeper idiots.

2. Well, she died in 1995
Does it seem to you like they're focusing more on his African-American roots? I loved reading this article - I didn't know his grandfather managed a furniture store on Main St. My dad worked for years in a clothing store near Main St. - gosh, I wonder if he knew Obama's grandparents??? I wish he were still alive so I could ask him!

4. It does seem like his campaign is focusing almost solely on his African-American heritage.
Perhaps his father's story is considered more interesting.

However, I think that his mom and his grandparents deserve a thank-you for picking up the slack.

3. I wanted to know more about his mother and grandparents.
They raised him, to be the exceptional man that he is, not his father.

Why doesn't he ever talk about them? Was there some sort of a problem? Frankly, I find it a little strange.

The Trib article was very informative and they sound like interesting people.

5. I loved reading that
Growing up there wasn't fun - too many conservative busybodies who concerned themselves with sticking their noses in everyone else's business. It's funny - my dad was very upset at the mere thought that I might ever consider marrying a black man. Mom was a Democrat, but even she felt the same way. I'm married to a Pakistani, and my sister married a Chinese American. It's funny how both of us escaped the narrowmindedness and developed the ability to think and appreciate others for themselves, not their races/religions/whatever.

I do wish he'd talk about her more - come on, Barack!
