On Edwards:
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 12:28 AM by mb7588a
He was vastly outspent,

He was completely ignored by the corporate media all year,

He fights for the common man,

His wife would be the most magnificent first lady in history,

He carries the mantle of the true progressives within the Democratic Party,

and he FUCKING CAME IN SECOND!

NONE OF THESE THINGS SPELLS THE END OF HIS CAMPAIGN OR HIS POPULISM! Shout it loud and clear to everyone you know tomorrow.

Hillary's a slogger and she'll go negative. Barak, well, let's see. It's going to get more interesting in the next week or two.

63. Funny how little the DU mentions Obama
I really don't care much about who wins the nomination. As long as its a Dem winning POTUS. I do notice that a great majority of the post circle around Edwards. Here's a news flash OBAMA WON IOWA. Maybe he and Edwards should get some credit for taking the crown from the almost crowned queen. I admire Edwards but He didnt bring it in 04. I wanted him to run but whether the media or not this election needs Something to break out from the norm. I hope that edwards does at minimum get the Vice Presidency at minimum. I think that a ticket of edward/obama or obama/edwards is what i get to vote for in november. I really do. but edwards supporters don't do the "everyone's fault that we didnt win syndrome". take responsibility and do more because the voters will respond. good luck.

4. It wasn't the best result but I can live with it.
I'm more bummed about not seeing the Edwards campaign staff in Iowa anymore after tonight. I have grown very fond of all of them.

Plus....I've very tired. It is grueling in Iowa when you decide to devote a lot of time volunteering for a candidate.

I would have taken a win but I've always said if we weren't going to win, let it be Obama who does.

14. He was not ignored by the media
He was on the cover of national magazines, he was the featured guest on Hardball more times than you can count (Obama and Hillary never were), he was on all the national talk shows, he got many front-page profiles in the New York Times (including not one but two as recent as yesterday).

Stop whining. For a candidate who was doing rather poorly in national polls and viable only in one state poll (Iowa), he got more attention than any other candidate in that position would have gotten.

47. the media and Edwards
Edwards received only 18% of the coverage that Clinton and Obama got-and I would say most of that 18% was negative-how do we all feel about this? this blackout of Edwards is remarkable-the media has the power to completely bury and slant news-are they also blacking out the cure for cancer? cheap, clean and plentiful hydrogen fuel? the global warming crisis? this display of control of the media is THE story-despite all this, he is in second-everyone should be POUNDING the media for its blatantly slanted coverage.

Only viable candidate addressing REAL CHANGE in this country and a second place finish, given all the circumstances you cited, is remarkable. If he continues to show the passion he showed during his speech tonight, and addressing the issues head on, he'll surge like a tidal wave and overcome the corporate creations.

51. got one for ya:

Come all you good workers,
Good news to you I'll tell
Of how the good old union
Has come in here to dwell.

CHORUS:
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on?

My dady was a miner,
And I'm a miner's son,
And I'll stick with the union
'Til every battle's won.

They say in Harlan County
There are no neutrals there.
You'll either be a union man
Or a thug for J. H. Blair.

Oh workers can you stand it?
Oh tell me how you can?
Will you be a lousy scab
Or will you be a man?

Don't scab for the bosses,
Don't listen to their lies.
Us poor folks haven't got a chance
Unless we organize.

An oldie but a Goodie.

candidates that didn't have a snowball's chance in hell decided to drop out.

Nothing else was settled for the dems. Barrie is not #1 until the end of the primaries. Hillary is not out. Edwards may still make it.

52. Here's a link to Elizabeth's statement quoted in Raleigh News & Observer
At events, Edwards takes the stage to the amplified strains of Tom Petty's "American Girl" and introduces her husband. While he talks about "corporate greed," she argues for his electability. In her quick cadence, she criticizes the 2004 campaign of Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, who tapped John Edwards as his running mate. "They didn't run a single ad in North Carolina," she tells audiences. "We had a candidate on the ticket. They didn't run a single ad."

http://www.newsobserver.com/politics/politicians/edwards/story/855360.html

I can vouch for her statement--at least in the Triangle (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) market. I never saw a single ad. I think Kerry came once to the State--after he'd tapped Edwards for the VP position. I don't believe he ever came back.

...I mean what does it say to you that a David Brooks and George Will always seem to heap praise on Obama and criticize Edwards. I may not be the smartest guy in the room, but I know when something stinks, and this guy sure does. I'm beginning to think that whatever Obama's mantra is - peaceful change...love-thy-neighbor until he comes around...whatever - it's this campaign's 'Compassionate Conservative' 'ho-ax'. It's a load of crap and people are falling for it.

If the Dems nominate Obama, we're as doomed as we would be with Hillary. With true progressives questioning his positions and racists everywhere vowing not to vote for him, the GD Repugs could very well take this thing again. God how awful.

send him some money. Both my wife and I have been under-and-unemployed for over a year, couldn't sell our house and have medical issues (and no paid-for insurance) which may wipe us out in the event of a catastrophe. Edward's message is welcome to the this "working class" person and hope he can go the distance. It's a shame the small states get all the bluster, one at a time until the "Super Tuesdays" occur while other candidates that have great messages and no money can't go the distance. If Edwards can make it to the California primary, I will send him every last coin I can find in the couch, and, if I get employment soon, he'll get much more.

Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 06:46 PM by DianaForRussFeingold
The Media Loves (Lieberman's protege) Obama...
Hmmm... Obama didn't show up to vote for, or against, the Kyl-Lieberman amendment... (he just hides out) -- the amendment passes without him and so it goes...

--Hillary Clinton-Corporations Love Her--Big Time!
Senator Clinton voted in favor of the Kyl-Lieberman amendment "to press the army toward war with Iran.
This was an important step, for her, and a vote as closely considered as her vote to authorize the bombing and occupation of Iraq."
When Edwards takes her to task on the vote, she just smiles...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-bromwich/hillary-clinton-votes-for_b_66174.html

--Edwards-- Real health care reform (no insurance companies at all) and no more preemptive wars...
He's 'for the people' much like Bobby Kennedy and
like Dennis Kucinich, he can't be 'bought and controlled'
Must scare the hell out of them...

62. Last night I was amazed that even when Edwards was ahead in the voting -
the media wouldn't report it. They are in love with HRC vs Obama - the story writes itself.

64. Yeah but he wasn't married to a former president
so he's toast, apparently. I frankly have ZERO understanding of why anyone would ever vote for Hillary Clinton EXCEPT the fact that she was married to Bill Clinton. (money makes the world go round I know-she has the money because she's sold her ever loving SOUL to the corporations-and that makes her a GREAT Democrat?)

She's not progressive. She's pro-war. She's not a unique and incredible speaker and motivator like Obama. I frankly do not understand this country at all. How she is a contender between the force that is Obama and the heart of Edwards I will NEVER understand.

And yes, I am writing off the Democratic party if it nominates HER-because her accomplishments in a time of dire need are ZERO. Her only fucking accomplishment is the name Clinton for which we must worship and drown in a fit of nostalgia as if the world will ever be made like it was back in 1995. That America is gone.

74. He used his charity to fund his 4 year campaign in Iowa. He has outside groups funding him
He is a hypocrite who runs away from his actual record.

He'll say anything to pander to Progressives.
