Hey Huckster - here's a lesson for you on scientific theory.
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 04:47 PM by sparosnare
You see, Evolution was not simply dreamed up out of thin air - it is the best explanation for life on this planet using the following model:

Development of a Simple Theory by the Scientific Method

Observation: Every swan I've ever seen is white.
Hypothesis: All swans must be white.
Test: A random sampling of swans from each continent where swans are indigenous produces only white swans.
Publication: "My global research has indicated that swans are always white, wherever they are observed."
Verification: Every swan any other scientist has ever observed in any country has always been white.
Theory: All swans are white.
Prediction: The next swan I see will be white.

Now, if you can do the same with Creationism; if you can prove its existence using scientific method, I'll vote for you for President.

1. The only problem with your "theory" is...
The next swan you are about to see is black!

Sometimes something looks like one thing until you find something else.

6. Not if all I've ever seen are white, and all my colleagues have ever seen are white.
If a black one comes along, then there goes the theory! ;-)

8. Yep! Brilliant!
So it wouldn't be wise to call people idiots if they don't believe that all swans are white;)

That's one thing I've seen a lot around here lately, and I think it stinks. We don't all have to agree, and we don't have to believe all swans are white either. What we should do is respect other perspectives, and not call each other idiots because we don't agree. Not very progressive, that.

Are the best example of why Intelligent Design is a piece of crap.

5. rational arguments only piss them off,
If they were sensible there would be no argument.

9. Ah yes, the sensibilites...
If all Jews agreed that Jesus is the Messiah, there'd be no problem. If all Irish Protestants agreed that the Church of England was the truth and the light, there would be no problem. If all Freepers would agree that being a Democrat was the only way to be, there'd be no problem. If all Fundies and Atheists didn't insist on trying to change each other's minds, there'd be no problem.

Religion is important to some people. It is the knot at the end of their rope. As long as no one is foisting their beliefs upon me, I don't give a flying spaghetti monster or a flying rat's ass what they choose to believe.

I just think there's too much name calling around here... and far too many insults.

Telling others they need to be 'sensible' is like Ann Coulter saying she just wants Jews to be perfected.

10. by "sensible" I meant
Open to the world around them. To deny the existence of something that is self evident is not sensible. Faith is a fine thing, maybe the best thing. But it brings out the worst in people. This argument is not an attack on faith but an attempt to prove the true nature of the universe.

11. And do any of us know the "true nature of the universe"?
What we know is but a drop of water in all the oceans.

Could it be that God is a scientist and "created" us all using this massive experiment we now call "evolution"? Could the "missing links" be creatures from other solar systems? There are billions and billions of solar systems out there, and it would be quite arrogant to say we are the only intelligent life forms in the universe. There is no question that things do evolve. Humans have changed drastically in the past several thousand years... even century to century you can see changes. We're taller, bigger... viruses mutate that's evolution to a degree... I think an open mind is worth more than any assumed absolute.

12. we know enough
to know that the biblical account has no real world proof.
we know that the earth is billions of years old.
we know that life changes in response to it's environment.
we know that with the right selection of traits you can turn a wolf into a wiener dog.
we seem to be arguing the same point.
