How would people feel about an Edwards/Obama or Obama/Edwards ticket?
Looks like they were working in tandem during the debate tonight.

3. The only way you run for VP twice is if you are running for reelection as VP

The second option won't happen.

8. I'd go for all three ...
It just seems that in the debate, they were working in tandem. HRC tried to enlist Edwards' rhetoric on change thinking she had Obama cornered. Obama responded and then gave it over to Edwards who actually rebuffed, pointedly, Clinton's entrenched status quo style ideas. Hillary was blindsided, in my opinion (and rightfully so). Of course, Richardson came in with his groveling about "civility." Richardson is looking more and more like a moron. "Persuade Musharref to step down?" :wtf:

I am a fervent Kucinich supporter, yet was disappointed that he asked his supporters to go towards Obama, but after watching Obama and Edwards work tonight, I wouldn't be terribly upset by a ticket with either of them on it.

7. The 'cosmetics' could be symbolically terrific ... but I don't think there's a chance.
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 09:56 PM by TahitiNut
I doubt anyone could disagree that an Obama/Edwards ticket would present a watershed symbolism of wondrous proportions, but I think Edwards would (rightfully) regard it with a taste of ashes in his mouth to take the VP spot yet again when he feels he earned more.

The image of an Edwards/Obama ticket would carry a far smaller symbolism ... and (in some minds) could be twisted perversely. Yet it would still be a powerful one.

While the North/South alliance would be excellent, it seems that either Edwards or Obama would be heavily pressured to take a member of the "old guard" as a second - and the DLC would be rabid that it be one of theirs.

Edwards and Obama need running mates who compliment them and make up for weaknesses. They are too similar in strengths, weaknesses, and experiences.

He is clearly out of it. He wants a cabinet of Republicans and Democrats.

When will he wake the hell up?

Though I'd much rather have Kucinch/Edwards or Kucinich/Obama. Or Kucinich/Richardson even.

32. Edwards is already on record being critical of Obama
That's a big minus right there.

Edwards failed to carry his own state last time. He got into lots of disagreements with Kerry. Kerry felt that Edwards was more concerned with his own political future than with being a team player. Edwards promised Kerry that if Kerry lost Edwards wouldn't turn around and go back to running for president. Days after the loss Edwards broke his word. Kerry also ended up personally disliking Edwards too, because Edwards was a phony.

29. Edwards/Obama would set up Obama for Presidency after Edwards finishes 2nd term...
There is a lot to like about Obama, and imagine how strong he would appear as a candidate once Edwards serves 2 terms. At that time, Obama could make the argument that he is the most experienced and prepared to be President.

I could live with FOUR(4) consecutive terms of Democratic Presidents!!!!

33. No and no
IMHO, either one would be incredibly foolish to chose the other. All spin and political posturing aside, and in spite of the need for something different than business as usual that seems to be sweeping both parties, it is a FACT that both Obama and Edwards have very limited experience. The VP choice needs to counter-balance that, at least partially. Can you see a McCain/? ticket vs E/O or O/E? Yes, the visuals would not be in McCain's favor, but he potentially could demolish them. At this point, I am all for an Obama win, but I hope he will be VERY careful in his choice of VP and major advisors/cabinet positions. And I think/hope he is too smart and thoughtful to make major blunders in this respect. Chosing Edwards for the 2nd spot, would be a major blunder in my view. On the other hand, I wonder whether this is not exactly what Edwards is angling towards after Iowa. I used to think that he would not be willing to consider the VP slot a second time, but I may have been wrong. I do not see any other rational explanation for his clear and agressive siding with Obama and against Clinton. In an one-on-one with Clinton he has a small chance to win, I do not think he has any chance against Obama. All IMHO of course :-).
