11. What's wrong with his facial expression?
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 11:09 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
He looks pretty impassive to me.

If those are notable facial expressions...

I wish there were a YouTube of the Congressional election debate in Southwest Washington in 1994. Republicanite Linda Smith was debating incumbent Dem Jolene Unsoeld. While Unsoeld was speaking, Smith literally made "bla-bla-bla" faces. I'm surprised it didn't cost her the election, but she won.

Now THAT would have been a notable YouTube scene, if indicative of Smith's general idiocy.

My husband suggested writing all the networks and asking them since they are not going to mention his name, they might as well put one of those black bars over his face. It's disgusting what they are doing. He has the highest margins against all the repukes, I hope Dems don't flub this one up.

32. Yup. In that single phrase, she demonstrates NO COMPREHENSION of the meaning ...
... of the word "change" as it's understood by the Democratic base. "Thirty-five years" is the very essence of STATUS QUO.

IMHO, those were the most DAMNING words out of her mouth in all of the debates so far. In being OBSESSIVELY "on-message" she betrayed complete insensitivity to the major phase changes needed. She missed it. Totally.

20. "we don't need to be raising the false hopes of our country..."
"...about what can be delivered." That's not something the Democratic nominee should be saying in 2008. I don't want my expectations managed, I want my country back. I missed the debates tonight but all I had to see was that clip -- that quote -- to know that I don't like what she is selling.

and like i said, i don't like hillary at all, i just can't get my head around the concept that somebody would consider that exchange a 'scream' or an 'outburst', what fucking planet are you people from, how do you interact with fellow humans if you think that was a 'crazy outburst', what the hell?

Maybe some will call her passionate, but if one of the men had expressed an outburst like that, I know there are people on here that would be all over it.
It was not so over the top IMO, but the media is going to pick up on it.

*bemused*..."to cause or have feelings of wry or tolerant amusement"

in other words, he knew he got her goat....geez, where in the hell did that saying come from?

You're the one being sexist here.

When I read your post I had the exact same thoughts that TahitiNut expressed. And it had nothing to do with you being a woman, it was because you sounded like a petulant child. Very unlike any woman I know over the age of 16. So you can drop the "sexist" routine, it doesn't apply and it doesn't fly.

And BTW, the expression is "the last straw" as in the straw that broke the camel's back: not "the last drop". That was an old Maxwell House Coffee commercial, "good to the last drop".

I was addressing your "sarcasm". It was sexist TOWARDS MEN. Obviously, it didn't even occur to you that sexism can work both ways. That's the way it is with a paranoid child - everyone is "attacking them" but if they do the same thing to others it's not an attack.

65. Okay, I have to ask:
THAT was considered an OUTBURST?????

Has our politics become so sterilized that when someone forcefully insists on making their point and then makes it (rather well, I thought), it is considered an outburst and a turning point?

I mean, c'mon. If she had yelled, okay. If she had turned red in the face or become apoplectic, sure. If she had pounded the table, cussed, whatever -- there are any number of things that I would have to agree are over the top. I just did not see any of them in that exchange.

67. well slipping backward is change, so I can't argue that she hasn't been part
of change.

Since she has pursued health care issues, the health care situation has gone from bad to worse... that's change.

Since she has been dealing with pharmaceutical corporations, drug costs are higher and their safety standards are lower.... that's change

Since she has been dealing with the oil industry, oil costs are higher, the environment is more volatile, and the costs to the consumer for basic necessities has risen.... that's change

nope, i can't argue that she has been part of making change, but it's not the change that I am looking for.

but it is the change that her sponsors (ooops, donors) like.
