FDR's "Four Freedoms" Speech
Today is reportedly the anniversary of FDR's Four Freedoms speech. Those were Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear. Why do you think he felt the need to put "Freedom from Fear" in with the other freedoms?

3. Check the date of the speech - January 1941. That should tell you why.
The world was at war. Fear was everywhere, even though the U.S. wouldn't be formally involved until year's end.

We look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms. The first is freedom of speech and expression--everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way-- everywhere in the world. The third is freedom from want . . . everywhere in the world. The fourth is freedom from fear . . . anywhere in the world.

--President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Message to Congress, January 6, 1941

7. Yes, but the world had been at war since 1939
Thanks, I know when Pearl Harbor was attacked. The point is, this nation was also fearful, and rightfully so. And FDR's Four Freedoms speech was not limited to the U.S.; his point was that the Four Freedoms should be in place throughout the world.

4. My take on the four freedoms below.
In W.W.II, Norman Rockwell painted pictures depicting the "Freedom Of Speech", "Freedom of Worship", "Freedom from Want", and "Freedom from Fear". They became famous as posters for the war effort, perhaps the greatest moment in the history of these United States. Unfortunately, those cherished freedoms are in danger from people who would change the very foundation of our constitutional form of democracy.

6. America's divided....
America's divided into two camps:

Those that respect and honor the Constitution and all it stands for, and

Those that repudiate the Constitution and are succeeding in destroying all it stands for.

The folks doing the latter GOT REELECTED in 2004, by the way.
