Thom Hartman also thinks the UK may be getting out because of a possible war with Iran
Edited on Wed Feb-21-07 06:01 PM by Quixote1818
He said such a war would enrage the Shiite's and then the UK soldiers would be caught in their cross hairs. He is not 100% sure of this but he thought it was a possibility.

Someone brought this up on DU last night.

1. He was talking about this today?
I haven't had a chance to listen to today's show yet, but that sounds like a good insight to me.

Anyone interested can listen to Thom's show 24/7 via the White Rose website - today's site will be repeated tonight & tomorrow morning until tomorrow's show comes on at 12:00 noon: http://www.whiterosesociety.org/Hartmann.pls

2. He brought it up during the last five minutes of his show
He was talking to that lady he always talks to (not sure who she is, some kind of reporter I think) and asked her what she thought. She said it was a possibility.

We just started getting Thom this week so I am not familiar with the different people he has on regularly.

3. I heard that, too. Who was the British woman on there with him?
She concurred about this, btw - that A) tony blair is trying to salvage what's left of his "legacy" by pulling the troops out, and B) that he knows something big and horrible is coming - as I recall she mentioned the "surge" - and that blair was looking to get his people out of the way before all hell broke loose all over the place (including where they are, in and around Basra). Both those assessments make sense to me.

Also, it wouldn't surprise me if he's trying to unstaff the war because Prince Harry's headed over there. I'm just guessing here, but I just get this feeling that if anything happened to one of Diana's boys over there, tony blair would wish he was still in whatever hot water he's in now (compared to the Hell on Earth that would rain down on him in such a case). It's just me bloviating here. I haven't heard anything concrete about this, but it seems to me the British people still love Diana, AND her sons (they're all the public has left as a link to her), and if bush/blair's war killed Harry, or seriously wounded him, there'd be rioting in the streets. I doubt tony would want to risk having something horrible happen to one of Di's boys ON HIS WATCH.

4. That plus Prince Harry's deployment
Of the two - I think Prince Harry is most responsible for the Brits to change their policy. Good for him on insisting he be sent like others and forcing the issue.

5. It is a possiblity that must be considered
I would love to think that the pullout is to save the Princes' behind, but I fear that there is more to this situation than that. We are coming upon the spring where many have been speculating about military action against Iran.
