Iraqi insurgents use 2nd 'dirty' bomb
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Insurgents exploded a truck carrying chlorine gas canisters Wednesday — the second such "dirty" chemical attack in two days — while a U.S. official said ground fire apparently forced the downing of a Black Hawk helicopter. All nine aboard the aircraft were rescued.

The attacks offer a sweeping narrative on evolving tactics by Sunni insurgents who have proved remarkably adaptable.

Military officials worry extremists may have recently gained more access to firepower such as shoulder-fired anti-aircraft rockets and heavy machine guns — and more expertise to use them. The Black Hawk would be at least the eighth U.S. helicopter to crash or be taken down by hostile fire in the past month.

The gas cloud in Baghdad, meanwhile, suggests possible new and coordinated strategies by bombers trying to unleash toxic — and potentially deadly — materials. "Terrorists are using dirty means," said Brig. Gen. Qassim Moussawi, an Iraqi military spokesman.

1. "Terrorists are using dirty means"
Edited on Wed Feb-21-07 06:41 PM by Tempest
While DU, phosphorous and cluster bombs are considered clean means, I suppose.

3. But the term "dirty bomb" is better to scare people with.
Just pay no attention to the civilians killed by our "clean" bombs.:sarcasm:

15. Believe it or not, it's possible
to condemn both. In fact, it's the only honest thing to do.

2. Don't dare call this a dirty bomb. It is meant to feed the fear
This is a car bomb near a chlorine tanker. This is not happening daily, nor is it a "tactic".

19. Why do we feed the propaganda by using their headlines?
Edited on Thu Feb-22-07 12:50 PM by slampoet
I can find the story just as easily if the AP title were in the body of the post and the Real headline, (AP trying to equate swimming pool chemical with radiation)is used for posting on DU

12. nope it's a car bomb near a tanker
If the term "dirty" gets thrown about it will be blamed on Iran and used so that we will start a war.

4. Ominous
This event is demonstrating new training ("on-the-job") for terrorists. If I were a Democratic member of Congress, I'd be jumping up and down on the Dept. of Homeland Security to quickly review security around US chemical plants and stores.

This is merely a windup for exporting such attacks to the US.

13. Excellent point, but...
The security review for chemical and nuclear facilities has been done and nothing has been done.

The facilities all received Fs by the group who reviewed their plans.

But you're right, it's time the Democrats made this a major issue.

To my knowledge, there's never been such a thing as a "dirty bomb."

14. Except that it's being attributed to Sunni insurgents.
And that would mean Saudi funding.

17. You've got to remember who we're dealing with here
The administration has stated that Iran was supplying the insurgents with the weapons killing U.S. troops. Since the insurgency is made up of Sunni Iraqis, the administration is saying Iran is supporting the Sunnis.

And Bush doesn't know the difference between a Sunni and a Shiite.

inconsequential as the truth get in their way when they are in hot pursuit of a new and improved war.:evilfrown:
