Update on Glenn Beck's surgery. You can't make this shit up lol...
Apparently the surgery that almost killed Glenn Beck, was to remove hemorrhoids. And here I thought it was to have his head surgically removed from his ass...

4. Same thing here while having impacted wisdom teeth removed.
I then spent 30 minutes flirting with the nurses while still in a Nitrous Oxide stupor.......the Mrs wasn't happy.

They should have gave her some Nitrous Oxide .

26. You had nitrous for mere impacted wisdom teeth?
I had that (and ALL my oral surgery) done under local anesthetic. And my only post-op medication was over-the-counter Tylenol -- no codeine or other narcotics.

And I was a skinny, 22-year-old chick with fibromyalgia. I can't believe how wimpy oral surgery patients are nowadays.

33. I have had plenty of oral surgery with only novacaine.
But I had to have wisdom teeth removed and I was given nitrous oxide and I can tell you I prefer that over all other anesthetics.

they only numbed up my gums. The second set was worse and I was out for those.

My poor hubbie...he needs one pulled and he's freaked out about it. I told him, it hurts way less than labor and a c-section...roflmao....

10. During my first endoscopy, I didn't realize that what they gave...
me was supposed to knock me out. It didn't and I kept trying to talk to the doctor and nurse with a camera down my throat. They were having a really annoying conversation about high school cheerleading and I couldn't seem to get their attention. Probably because I wasn't suppose to be awake.

It's very weird to have medical personnel working on you thinking that you're not really "there."

8. One of the responses...
My wife is a nurse and she's swamped. Can't give the care people should get. If they spend too much time focusing on one patient others are ignored. It's not the people's fault. It's the fault of regulation and govt. control. Too much paperwork. It's the fault of lack of medical and nursing schools coupled with their monopoly on medical education.

Nursing schools TRY to drive students out. They claim it's to weed out the weak ones but it's more about money. If they can maintain their monopoly they can charge 30K/year for tuition.

Damn, they're stupid.

13. Oh jeez. The community colleges here teach nursing for $20/unit.
And even with strict standards and a long wait for the program, it still has a high drop rate. Mostly because students aren't prepared well for the math and science involved, from what I understand (my coworker is a nursing student.)

15. Poor baby...
woke up in the operating room and got scared. He'll be crying about it for weeks. Maybe he would like to interview a friend of mine, who also woke up in the operating room.

Unlike Lil Glennie, her surgery was not over yet. And only part of her anesthesia had worn off. She felt everything, but her body was still paralyzed from that part of the anesthesia that had not worn off, and there was no way to let them know.

To put it in a nutshell, so that a whiny right-wing nut like Beck might understand...she was awake for her mastectomy. The doctors doubted her, until she told them what music was playing and repeated their conversations back to them.

Did she have a national radio program to moan loudly on, so that the throngs of faithful would feel sorry for her? No.

When I asked her if she was thinking about taking any legal action, her response was "Nah, shit happens, I'm alive and glad to be here".

21. I've heard about that happening
and it sounds like a nightmare...it must feel like one. A pain and fear filled situation where you can't escape or yell out, anything.

I'm glad she's alive too and it's cool not to sue...
but I don't get how it happens. There has to be a way to tell if someone is really out. I don't know how it's monitored. Don't recall the percentage of surgeries where it happened...very small but every one is one too many.

I love your friend! It takes a great person to choose to look at the positive, rather than to dwell on the incredible negative that her experience was.

Please give her a big  from me! It comes with my sympathy for her ordeal, my admiration for her strength, and my best wishes.

Well welcome to the real world you republican nut freak.

His issues were with pain medication given him, and how he was treated. Poor baby. Welcome to the nightmare of your own making Glen. You and your pals with the "profit" gig for healthcare made it so, and since this is obviously your first trip to experience this first hand you are shocked!

25. An observation
If you are using enough narcotics to have built up a pretty good tolerance, sometimes the anesthetic dose given for non-users won't be enough to put you under or keep you under.

31. Since when is hemorrhoid surgery life-threatening?
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 05:45 AM by Fighting Irish
It's routine stuff. Sometimes, it can be taken care of with topical solutions. We're not talking about severing arteries here. just a few simple blood vessels. I've never heard of a botched hemorrhoid operation.

What's with all the drama queen bullshit? Geez, Beck has lost what's left of his mind.

35. He's having an epiphany!
He now understands the need for health care for everyone. He's learning to have compassion for people who must endure the pain of surgery and he sees the need for more nurses so patients can get better care. He is seeing the light and now wants nurse unions to thrive and he now sees that, indeed, love and caring and compassion are the milk of human kindness and that if you care about your brothers and sisters you will take care of them. He has extrapolated his experience to empathize with soldiers and civilians who are needlessly wounded in wars and must undergo the horrible pain of recovery.

Oh forget it! Some things just aren't gonna happen! Self pity is the best kind because you know it's sincere.

...how bad that same procedure would have been in CANADA!!! My god, those maple-smelling hippie docs would have probably used all the sub-par pain meds on themselves while cutting into the former morning radio DJ (Yes, Beck's that big a douchebag.) with a Swiss Army knife. I mean, that's the horrors of "socialized medicine," right? Right?

39. There is a deep philosophical question buried within this event:
How does one remove a hemorrhoid from a hemorrhoid? Can a flower survive after one removes its 'flowerness'? Can "the beetle" be removed from a beetle? Do warts get warts? Are we all just the inextricable crud under the fingernail of God? Clearly the surgery was complicated because the doctors faced a set of ontological questions unusual to the theatre of the operating room. Glenn Beck is indeed lucky to have survived.

41. Oh dear God...
Nope... it's not about HMOs, or not enough equipment to serve patients, or lack of availability, it's because nobody showed him enough "care and compassion".

So much for "compassionate" Glenn Beck's health care "epiphany"... the walking hemorrhoid just wasn't getting enough "care" and attention for his sore ass because he's so important. What a whiny, self-important little bitch...

The freeps are dissing BECK ("MAN UP"!1) and citing Howard STERN's deep insight that 'roids are caused by not wiping up well. The freeps are actually endorsing the dastardly French bidets. One of them sez he/she doesn't have a bidet but uses a shower head "for that extra cleaning". Several of them show deep contempt for BECK. Hilarious!1
