and if you were to try to lend a hand up
to someone that is down and on the streets. maybe a family that's living in their car, how do you know you haven't brought freddie krueger into your household?

I realize the primary is very important, but in this time of economic uncertainty I'm thinking i have enough to help others. Anyone tried it? How did it work? Did you go to work one day and come home to an empty house? I care but I'm scared. Does that make sense?

1. My ex-wife did that and....came home to an empty house.
A young homeless couple she met at an AA meeting.

You might try this if you want to help somebody in need.

It works. We have 16 loans out now. As they are paid off, we make new loans.

2. If you have friends, or a church or other organization ....
that can vouch for these people, you'll probably be all right. Depending on your definition of "all right." Many many people have friends in trouble right now.

You're talking about sharing your home with them? How much of your home? Establish the ground rules. This space they can use...that space is all yours. Where should they be when you have supper? Or company? Many of them ARE working, but can't afford rent. But can they pay you something to cover water and electricity? Buy their own food?

Is this an open-ended arrangement? Or just till they can make first month's rent and deposit?

All of this needs to be spelled out in advance.
