US Chamber of Commerce declares WAR ON POPULISM! (who's afraid of john edwards?)

Alarmed at the increasingly populist tone of the 2008 political campaign, the president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is set to issue a fiery promise to spend millions of dollars to defeat candidates deemed to be anti-business.

"We plan to build a grass-roots business organization so strong that when it bites you in the butt, you bleed," chamber President Tom Donohue said....

Although Donohue shied away from precise figures, he indicated that his organization would spend in excess of the approximately $60 million it spent in the last presidential cycle. That approaches the spending levels planned by the largest labor unions....

"I'm concerned about anti-corporate and populist rhetoric from candidates for the presidency, members of Congress and the media," he said. "It suggests to us that we have to demonstrate who it is in this society that creates jobs, wealth and benefits -- and who it is that eats them."

omfg! what is he trying to say here? "who it is that EATS them"?

What kind of a statement is that for any sane human being to utter? He is threatening people with bodily harm ferchrisesakes. He is threatening candidates! I wonder if this isn't part of why the news blackout on Edwards and others is happening. Corporate media will be bled out by this dude. He's a vampire. A leech. We all need to send this to Keith, to the Edwards campaign, and anyone else that will listen.

Edwards statement about this:

"Teddy Roosevelt, a great American president -- he didn't make deals with the monopolies and the trusts. Teddy Roosevelt took them on, busted the monopolies, busted the trusts. That's what it's going to take.

We have a battle in front of us. We do."

This just shows how political the business society has become and should reinforce Edwards' position. I'm not surprised, it's the same over here. Business lost most of it's charm when it got political, because--as mr. Donahue says--they have all the money and the society we live in, no matter where we live on this earth, is built to favor business and those who have money. The shere weight of their position as influential lobbyists was enough to scare us, now we see a sort of commercial filter developing that also takes out any candidate not to their taste before the lobbyism even starts.
This does not bode well for the future.

i think it might be a good idea to contact any or all of these individuals, and ask them where they stand on this outrageous statement by Donohue. ask them if they agree with the basic premise set forth by their leader, that they are the Masters Of The Universe and the rest of us are simply eaters existing only by their largesse. :mad:
