242. This has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever seen on this board
which puts it WAY WAY UP THERE.

Every candidate in history has said "As the President, I will..." in their campaign speeches.

It does not constitute a claim on the office. It's called being positive. Have you slept through the entire history of the United States electoral process?

Is that really the best you can do? Shouldn't you be pointing out that her buttons are on the other side of her shirt, or something?

47. No, what's "sick" is this constant insistance around here
that Hillary is "different" even when she does something which all the other candidates do.

It is quite amusing to watch all the heads exploding here as Hillary wins. If I wasn't supporting her on my own, I'd probably cheer her on anyway just to see the smarmy smear-ers going batshit over her winning --- complete with conspiracy theories about how she must have rigged the vote, and talk of how she scammed all the "gullible voters" when she "broke down sobbing" (even tho at most her voice cracked a bit).

Hilarious.

65. You keep changing the subject. We all know you hate the war,
that you hate Hillary. That isn't what you said. You made the statement she said something terrible. The only problem with your logic is that every other candidate has said the same thing. Nobody is supporting the war, I have never said I like or dislike Hillary. You are being taken to task for making an erroneous statement. That doesn't make us Hillary supporters, doesn't make us like the war any better than you. Your hatred of Hillard is coloring your entire world. The only thing she said is something that they all have said, "As president I will...."

Drink that cup of tea, put away the Ouija board and tell the cat to take a nap...you have completely lost touch with what people are saying. It must be horrible to have that much hate for any one person. Get off your high horse, your position isn't any more valid than others. You are entitled to your opinion, you aren't entitled to your own set of facts. Hillary said nothing more or nothing less than every other candidate. She didn't speak in tongues, in special code for only the Hillary haters, she didn't wink or nudge anyone when she said it. She made a statement.

Nobody likes the war so quit pretending that is what we are saying.

at one time or another while campaigning. It's normal during a campagin. It gives the impression that they are confident in winning as to encourage those working for them and for voters to have confidence in them. It's a normal tactic.

"And I won't just talk about how great teachers are - as President I will reward them for their greatness - by raising salaries and giving them more support. That's why I'm in this race."

"As President, I will end the war in Iraq."

"Part of my job as president I think is to deliver a message that everybody is part of the American family,"

"But my job as president is going to be to make sure that the legal rights that have consequences on a day to day basis for loving same sex couples all across the country, that those rights are recognized and enforced by my White House and by my Justice Department."

"But it is crucial that the American people know that as president it will not be my job -- and I believe it would be wrong -- for me to impose my personal faith beliefs on the American people or to decide any kind of decision, policy decision, that will affect America on the basis of my personal faith beliefs."

"As President I will spend all my time trying to figure out how to keep you safe... And I would fight on the right fronts."

"I was able to expand this program when I was a state Senator in Illinois, and as President I'll do it again."

"So my starting point as president is to restore that sense that we are in this together. That's the starting point. And faith informs that. My moral commitments to that vision of a -- what Dr. King called "a beloved community" rose out of my faith."

"I will ask for your service and your active citizenship when I am President of the United States. This will not be a call issued in one speech or program; this will be a cause of my presidency."

"They have not funded my campaign, they will not get a job in my White House, and they will not drown out the voices of the American people when I am President."

"When I am this party's nominee, my opponent will not be able to say that I voted for the war in Iraq"

"When I am President, we will stop passing bills called No Child Left Behind that leave the money behind, and start making real investments in education."

"I don't take a dime of their money, and when I am President, they won't find a job in my White House"

"When I am President, I will end the tax giveaways to companies that ship our jobs overseas, and I will put the money in the pockets of working Americans, and seniors, and homeowners who deserve a break"

"When I am President, we will stop passing bills called No Child Left Behind that leave the money behind and start making real investments in education from cradle to adulthood"

"This is a task I will commit my Department of Justice to when I am President of the United States."

His anti-corporation message, his hardworking, invisible, voiceless, ignored American message is now HERS!

from her speech:

"The oil companies, the drug companies, the health insurance companies, the predatory student loan companies, have had 7 years of a president who stands up for them. It's time we had a president who stands up for all of you."

:wtf: is right! She's turning into a Romney. She'll change her message whenever it suits her purpose.

87. Well well well, another anti-Hillary screed debunked:
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 12:38 AM by NYC Liberal
The word PRESIDENT appears only 4 times, and none of those times did she refer to herself as president!

Remarks following the New Hampshire primary

Thank you. Thank you so much. I come tonight with a very, very full heart. And I want especially to thank New Hampshire. Over the last week, I listened to you and in the process, I found my own voice.

I felt like we all spoke from our hearts, and I am so gratified that you responded. Now, together, let's give America the kind of comeback that New Hampshire has just given me.
For all the ups and downs of this campaign, you helped remind everyone that politics isn't a game. This campaign is about people. It's about making a difference in your lives. It’s about making sure that everyone in this country has the opportunity to live up to his or her God-given potential. That has been the work of my life.

We are facing a moment of so many big challenges. We know we face challenges here at home, around the world, so many challenges for the people whose lives I've been privileged to be part of. I've met families in this state and all over our country who have lost their homes to foreclosures. Men and women who work day and night but can't pay the bills and hope they don't get sick because they can't afford health insurance. Young people who can't afford to go to college to pursue their dreams.

Too many have been invisible for too long. Well, you are not invisible to me.

The oil companies, the drug companies, the health insurance companies, the predatory student loan companies have had seven years of a president who stands up for them. It's time we had a president who stands up for all of you.

I intend to be that president, to be a president who puts you first - your lives, your families, your children, your future. I believe deeply in America, in our can-do spirit, in our ability to meet any challenge and solve any problem. I believe in what we can do together. In the future, we will build together. There will be no more invisible Americans. So we're going to take what we've learned here in New Hampshire, and we're going to rally on and make our case. We are in it for the long run.

And that is because we are in it for the American people. This victory will serve notice that people across our country know what's really at stake, that we will all be called upon to deliver on the promise of America.

We'll be called upon to deliver on the promise that the middle class will grow and prosper again, to deliver on the promise the government will be of the people, by the people and for the people, not just the privileged few, to deliver on the promise that every generation will have their shot at the American dream, to deliver on the promise that we'll have the will and the wisdom to end the war in Iraq the right way, to deliver on the promise to take care of our brave veterans and restore America’s standing, respect, and credibility around the world.

We know that for the promise of America to be real, we are called upon to deliver on that promise. And if you join in this call to greatness, we will, together, answer. So tomorrow, we're going to get up, roll up our sleeves and keep going.
I invite you to come join us at Hillaryclinton.com. We're going to tap into all of the spirit, the talent and just the plain grit of this great nation again.
We are determined to tackle our toughest problems and stand up to those who most need a champion because we are determined to make America work again for all of our people.

We came back tonight because you spoke loudly and clearly. You want this campaign to be about you because there is so much at stake for our country.
I have so many people to thank. I want to thank the two most important people in my life, Bill and Chelsea. I want to thank them for their incredible commitment, their passion and their heart. I want to thank my entire family, particularly my mother, who is watching tonight.
I want to thank the extraordinary team here in New Hampshire that never faltered one minute. That team had a great staff. It had volunteers and supporters from across the state and this country. I want to thank the young people across New Hampshire who came out.

They asked the hard questions and they voted their hearts and their minds and I really appreciate it.
Finally, I want to say how much I respect our Democratic candidates. Senators Dodd and Biden who were in the race earlier have given great service to our country. Governor Richardson, Congressman Kucinich, Senator Edwards and Senator Obama.

They all have put themselves on the line day and night on behalf of this country we love so much.

This campaign will transform America because we will take on the challenges. We will seize the opportunities. Every single day, I am not going out there on my own. I am going out there accompanied by millions and millions of people who believe, as I do, that this country is worth fighting for.

from every other candidate who has said it, pray tell? I'm still waiting on that one.

Your hatred of Hillary Clinton is so blind, you cannot even find a reason for it. Her last name is Clinton, so therefore, if she does it it's bad.

Anyway, it's pretty obvious when someone has run out of arguments when they start throwing around the good old ad hominems. I'm an asshole....says the person who calls me one. Okay.

If you can't or won't answer that question above....then who is your candidate? Out of curiosity...

135. Then just say you don't like her arrogance...
or that you see her as arrogant. You perceive how she says that particular as arrogant and that she's assuming she'll win. That's fine. It's your opinion and it would have saved you a hell of a lot of grief if you had said it to begin with in order to avoid this dog pile you were subjected to.

There is no shame in saying that you should have said it earlier. Everyone makes mistakes and says something on DU they wished they had rephrased better. It's a normal thing. :)

165. Hillary ignored the UN and sent troops into Iraq?
Gosh she's even more powerful than I thought considering she doesn't even have the authority!

Floor Speech of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on S.J. Res. 45, A Resolution to Authorize the Use of United States Armed Forces Against Iraq
http://clinton.senate.gov/speeches/iraq_101002.html
So, Mr. President, the question is how do we do our best to both defuse the real threat that Saddam Hussein poses to his people, to the region, including Israel, to the United States, to the world, and at the same time, work to maximize our international support and strengthen the United Nations?

While there is no perfect approach to this thorny dilemma, and while people of good faith and high intelligence can reach diametrically opposed conclusions, I believe the best course is to go to the UN for a strong resolution that scraps the 1998 restrictions on inspections and calls for complete, unlimited inspections with cooperation expected and demanded from Iraq. I know that the Administration wants more, including an explicit authorization to use force, but we may not be able to secure that now, perhaps even later. But if we get a clear requirement for unfettered inspections, I believe the authority to use force to enforce that mandate is inherent in the original 1991 UN resolution, as President Clinton recognized when he launched Operation Desert Fox in 1998.

If we get the resolution that President Bush seeks, and if Saddam complies, disarmament can proceed and the threat can be eliminated. Regime change will, of course, take longer but we must still work for it, nurturing all reasonable forces of opposition.

If we get the resolution and Saddam does not comply, then we can attack him with far more support and legitimacy than we would have otherwise.

If we try and fail to get a resolution that simply, but forcefully, calls for Saddam's compliance with unlimited inspections, those who oppose even that will be in an indefensible position. And, we will still have more support and legitimacy than if we insist now on a resolution that includes authorizing military action and other requirements giving some nations superficially legitimate reasons to oppose any Security Council action. They will say we never wanted a resolution at all and that we only support the United Nations when it does exactly what we want.

So it is with conviction that I support this resolution as being in the best interests of our nation. A vote for it is not a vote to rush to war; it is a vote that puts awesome responsibility in the hands of our President and we say to him - use these powers wisely and as a last resort. And it is a vote that says clearly to Saddam Hussein - this is your last chance - disarm or be disarmed.

My vote is not, however, a vote for any new doctrine of pre-emption, or for uni-lateralism, or for the arrogance of American power or purpose -- all of which carry grave dangers for our nation, for the rule of international law and for the peace and security of people throughout the world.

Over eleven years have passed since the UN called on Saddam Hussein to rid himself of weapons of mass destruction as a condition of returning to the world community. Time and time again he has frustrated and denied these conditions. This matter cannot be left hanging forever with consequences we would all live to regret. War can yet be avoided, but our responsibility to global security and to the integrity of United Nations resolutions protecting it cannot. I urge the President to spare no effort to secure a clear, unambiguous demand by the United Nations for unlimited inspections.

She voted for it and supported it on the condition that George W BUsh do what he said he was going to do and seek a UN resolution and wait for the inspectors to finish. That is not Hillary Clinton's fault that he lied. It is his.

105. Still not answering *either* question, of course.
Why is it bad when Hillary says "As president I will..." but when every other candidate says the same thing (and not just in this election), it's ok, or just "par for the course"?

Yes Ann Coulter will be her press secretary...with a record like this:

* Through 2006, she has a lifetime 96% "Liberal Quotient" from Americans for Democratic Action.<257>
* ProgressivePunch gives her a 91.4% lifetime progressive rating, ranking her the 28th most progressive of current senators.<258>
* Through 2006, she has a lifetime 9% rating from the American Conservative Union.<259>
* She received an 'A' (excellent) on the Drum Major Institute's 2005 Congressional Scorecard on middle-class issues.<260>
* The American Civil Liberties Union has given her a 75% lifetime rating through September 2007.<261>
* NARAL Pro-Choice America consistently gave her a 100% pro-choice rating from 2002 to 2006.<262>
* The League of Conservation Voters has given her a lifetime 90% pro-environment action rating through 2006.<263>
* Americans for Better Immigration has given her a lifetime grade of 'D-' (very near failing) through October 2007 on their Immigration-Reduction Report Card.<264>
* The National Rifle Association gave her an 'F' (failing) rating in 2006 for her stance on Second Amendment issues.<265

she's the biggest right-winger out there! (I see your :puke: and raise you a :eyes:)

Classic anti-Hillary nonsense...low on facts, high on hyperbolic buzzwords.

"Are you afraid of the truth? Of freedom?"

Yes, and I also want the terra-ists to win!!1 I hate America for its freedoms. Sheesh.

128. What do her votes have to do with the SPECIFIC phrase
"As president I will..."? They have to do with whether she will appoint right-wingers like Ann Coulter -which is why I posted those ratings - but have nothing to do with why when she says "As president..." it's bad, yet when everyone else says it it's just par for the course.

"You know? It's OK to realize that you might be wrong"

Interesting, because he seems to have this same "arrogance" as Hillary:

And when I am elected President of the United States, in my first day in office I will be ready to push. I will send to the Congress a bill for universal single payer not-for-profit health care.

When I am elected President I intend to restore the educational funding, and I know where the money is.? And they knew exactly what I was talking about.

REP. KUCINICH: But it -- listen, every one of us through taking a stand has the potential to help any one of us evolve. That's what -- that's the gift we give to each other. And when someone is president of the United States and is willing to share that with a nation, we can have -- lift up the whole nation in so many ways not only in matters of equality, but in matters of peace, in matters of all social and economic justice. I mean that's what I'm about.

So to be here is an honor because I recognize the journey of so many people in this room, of solitary journeys of courage, real courage, and when you understand that, then of course as president I want to exemplify that because so many of you have already taken that path, and you deserve a leader who's ready to take the same path.

217. Photoshop?
:wtf:

Anyway, tell me *where* Hillary Clinton said she is president in her speech:

Thanks.

Apparently, it can be pointed out a million times that all presidential candidates say the same sort of thing, post screenshots, give links, etc. Won't make a bit of difference to someone who is committed to an idea born of hatred.

I'll try. Breeze, for the love of God, listen. All presidential candidates refer to themselves as if they were president. It's what they do. There's no conspiracy. No one knows "what we don't know" at least about this.

The attacks this primary season have been have been piss poor at best, this is the lamest attempt yet. Every Presidential candidate says what she said. Watch any debate or any stump speech by any of the candidates running in either party and they all speak under the presumption that they are going to win. This is the poorest attack on any candidate I've seen so far this season.

241. I have more than sufficiently thick skin my friend.
I was here during the '03-'04 Primary wars backing General Clark. I'm just saying that Clinton used language that every other person who has ever run for President has used. To try to pin some conspiracy on her campaign due to something as ridiculous as that is beneath the intelligence of everyone on this site, including the Freeper trolls.

If you want to say that Senator Clinton is going to win because the same corporate cocksuckers who stole the elections for the Chimp are going to do the same for her then say that. But don't use something as ludicrous as her use of a future perfect tense as a premise for knocking her down.

I think that when other people in this thread were expressing concern about your mental stability they were being sincere.

I strongly urge you to consider talking to a counselor or someone similar.

Good Luck! Best Wishes!

141. Gawd almighty, it's starting up again
It's common for candidates to say "as President I will..." or "When I am President..." She isn't the only to say this.
