Golf Channel Reporter: "golf's young players should "lynch Tiger Woods"....
What is it about Duke? Okay, maybe that's not fair. But it did make me scratch my head and wonder when I read what Kelly Tilghman (pictured with Arnold Palmer), a former Blue Devil golfer, said on the Golf Channel last Friday during her gig as co-lead announcer for the network's telecast of the Mercedes-Benz Championship, the PGA Tour's inaugural event of the season.

I have not seen the clip, nor do I know the context of the remarks. This is what I know -- that Tilghman, who never played on the LPGA Tour, said golf's young players should "lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley."

Had Woods been white, to use the most heinous crime committed in this nation to illustrate God-knows-what point would have been egregious. But that he's not makes the remark unconscionable. And punishable.

It would be a travesty if Tilghman is allowed to broadcast the next event for the Golf Channel. (It speaks volumes already that she was allowed to sit on the air all day Saturday, as if nothing happened. She then offered an on-air apology on Sunday but still did the entire telecast.)

5. Oh, for goodness sake.
One of my brothers plays golf and he's a firefighter with a parttime job on the side. He plays on public courses.

7. REALLY
I do respect firefighters, however that much land, restricted to so few people is against my Marxist feelings.

11. Be thankful for all the trees on the golf courses.
A developer could always come in and chop them down. That's what happened with the golf course in my hometown. Damn developer chopped down a good two thirds of beautiful, large oak trees. Some were well over a hundred years old. :(

My brother-in-law and I play nearly 35-40 rounds each summer. We enjoy the challenge, the camaraderie, and the outdoors.

We hardly, hardly HARDLY belong to the bourgeois class of Americans.

Signed,

2. Imagine if someone had said "young golfers need to rape Kelly Tilghman"
That's the only statement I can think of that would be as obscene as what she said.

8. I Don't Imagine Her Remarks Were Intentionally Racist
But, then again, that isn't really an excuse for them either. This was stupidity at ludicrous speed. If she's lucky, Tiger will realize he's the better human being and show her some mercy which no doubt will help her at least a little with damage control. But, this twit is in for a hell of a ride - all of her own making.

13. Casual bigotry is the most insidious kind
It's just ingrained and second-nature to some people. No doubt more than a few viewers are chuckling over that one, sad to say.

10. She should be fired.
If she were my employee she'd be gone already.

That was an absolutely unacceptable (and absurdly ignorant) remark.

17. OK
It's a stupid comment. And, even from a professional golf perspective, makes no sense.

The young golfers, with sufficient talent to play at the top level, will be making WAY more money, BECAUSE OF HIM! Last year, the guy who finished 160th on the money list made nearly $400k in 31 events. That's almost 13 grand a week, for the 160th best guy! Tiger's tide is raising all their boats.

Also, his level of play has made the beest of the best work harder to have any chance of respectability. That means that the pretenders are not even in the way for the best players.

If anything, these young players should be donating 10% of their earnings to Tiger's charity trust.
The Professor
