Imagine walking around a convention hall with name tags --- just using our user names from DU.

I wonder what that would feel like...?

Meeting in person.

There are quite a few DUers I'd greatly enjoy meeting. Ah, but our DU personality, cloaked safely behind the anonymity of cyberspace may look very different in real life.

I'd be willing to go for it! I think it would be a lot of fun.

Can you picture a DU Convention?

I'm one of the least anonymous posters here.

25. Yeah, we need to plan a convention meet-up!
I'm on-board fo rsure, seeing that I live in Denver. :)

I've probably met 50 DUers in person in the four years I've been here. I didn't hit it off as BBFE with them all, but I didn't dispise any of them. ;) All-in-all we are a good bunch. And I have about three I've spent considerable and fun time with, even though two of them live on opposite ends of the country and thousands of miles from me.

4. Too fun...
I think I'm a bit more cynical and snippy online--than I am in person.

I'm pretty sunny in person.

I think I use the 'net to vent my frustrations.

It would be fun to meet.

8. That would be fun. And I use my last name as my ID across the internet.
Others may not do that with their names, but have made their places of business known for the benefit of other DUers, so some of us are easy to find and are OK with that.

12. I'd be cooler with some rather than others no doubt.
I have no idea what some of my better friends look like or how they live. The 'net's weird that way.

I moved around a lot growing up so I don't have a lot of 'old friends'.

I like meeting people online who have similar affinities. I 've gone on to meet a few in person. Pretty much good experiences.

I would love that!

I've been lucky to have met a lot of DU'ers, and I always have a ball!

I sure as heck can picture a DU Convention!

Green Meanie is planning a big DU meetup this summer...talk to her...

Living under the stars in rural Washington I can't say I've met a lot of DUers. But quite a few liberal coyotes!

Thanks for the tip on a summer meetup. :hi:

17. I like the anonymity. It just makes me feel a little freer even
thought people who know me may recognize me because I discuss details of my life. It isn't that I say anything I wouldn't want to own up to, but I express my emotions a little more freely than I might if I were writing under my real name or were known by my real name.

20. Cool with it? Absolutely.
For better or worse, I'm about the same IRL.

I'd love a DU Convention. I'm also of the belief that regardless of the infighting and nastiness that goes on here from time to time (okay, ALL the time) that a DU Convention would be a positive, fun experience.

Several years ago in DC. Many of us were very close online.

We had a couple of hundred people there. Carville, Joe Conason, and David Brock showed up.

Enjoyed it very much.

I've met several DUers over the years who have been very nice.

After the nastiness of this election cycle, I'm not sure I would go for this.

to meet the people behind the user names. We were gathered down there to protest Bush's inauguration.

They were okay that I was Robbien.

At each meetup, each time we all had a ball seeing the faces and engaging the personalities behind all the screen names.

and I have no problem telling them my real name, or showing them who I am.

And there are a few I haven't met yet, but with whom I've shared things I won't share online.

And I think a DU Convention would be so great!

I already feel alienated enough around here, why repeat the experience in person?
