I am so politically shallow.
I have nineteen days to figure out for whom I will cast my vote. Yes, I'm still wounded by a Gore no-show, but not bitter. I am waffling between Kucinich and Biden. I am well aware their Iowa and NH results are dismal, but there you have it.

Why am I shallow?

Because I'm excited by the prospect of a woman president or an African American president. And boy does that offend the liberal in me. The gender and color of the president shouldn't make one bit of difference, but I find it does. I think it's cool we are on the cusp of breaking the historical precedent of white male. Whether either one gets the nomination or not, their campaigns were taken as legitimate unlike women, African Americans and African American women in the past.

When my son got to the end of a book on the Presidents of the United States a few years ago, he put it down, turned to me and said, "Cool. When can we get the book about the lady presidents?" Broke my heart to tell him there wasn't one. No, that is not a good reason to vote for anyone.

However, given the alternative, regardless of the nominee I will most assuredly be casting my vote Democrat in November. I have vetted both the Republican and Democratic candidates to the best of my ability and my last choice Democrat still far and away surpasses my first choice Republican. Wow, I had to swallow hard to type those words. First choice Republican. *shudder*

Primary rancor is never a fun time, but I have my faith that following the convention we'll be able to settle down into a good old fashion slug fest with the Republicans. Wish I could add more parties to that list, but we have the system we have at this point.

Peace and GOTV!

1. I don't think you're at all shallow...
Unlike the majority of voters, I think you're doing your homework and making educated comparisons of all the candidates. As far as offending the liberal in you, I wouldn't worry about that, either. I'm supporting Barack Obama. If my support was based on his skin color, then it could be said that I would have voted for Alan Keyes, too! I don't want just any African American or any woman to win the presidency, and I'm sure that's how you feel, too.

4. True, the idea of a Condi Rice presidency is vomit inducing.
Quite literally.

2. If you are shallow, I am too
I am also a Kucinich supporter and will vote for him, but by the time my primary in Virginia rolls around it won't make any difference.

There is very little difference, in my opinion between the top three candidates on what they would do once in office. It seems to be a difference of style. I'd say go with the one you think will match up best in the general election.

We will have a tough general election, folks. States like Indiana, Georgia, Virginia, etc. are making it tougher for our side to vote with requiring picture ids. Anyone who doesn't see a serious threat from their side lives in a part of the country where Republicans don't live. Yes there is a lot of interest in our side now, but we have to keep up the scrutiny. I'm so afraid if they steal this one it will crush all the hope out of us.

7. Yes, living in a red county in a purple state is sobering to say the least.

10. Oh, I was waiting for the punchline.
Not a clue what her wardrobe has to do with anything so you've lost me I'm afraid. Especially since I'm a woman who also prefers pantsuits to skirts and dresses. I never could abide a draft. Also think they make me look leggier. I tend to look choppy with a skirt, but at 5'9" look spectacular in a well tailored pantsuit. Don't have to worry about pantyhose runs either. Far more practical.

So what is the difference between a skirt and a pair of slacks to a voter these days? Seriously curious.

Husband woke me up early this morning so I'm not firing on all cylinders yet. Jury is out whether I will be at all today.
