Good movie you all need to see: "Offside"

Offside (Persian: آفساید ) is a 2006 Iranian film about girls who try to watch a World Cup qualifying match but are forbidden by law because of their gender. The film was inspired by director Jafar Panahi's daughter, who decided to attend a game anyway. The film was shot in Iran<1> but its screening was banned there.

I've always had a strong desire to see Iran. I hear it's absolutely beautiful and the people are eager to have foreign tourists. Unfortunately, bureaucrats in both countries have allowed our diplomatic relationship to sour to the point where I doubt I will ever have the opportunity to visit that country in my lifetime.

This movie deals with the complex social position in which Iranian men forcefully hold their female populace. Under the guise of protecting women from the vices that men enjoy, women soccer fans are forbidden from viewing the games in person at the stadium. That does not stop a large number of women, who attempt to gain entry, but are caught and sequestered in an enclosure outside the stadium where they are "treated" to a soldier's commentary on the game.

I loved this movie.

I've heard of Offside, but haven't seen it, although will hopefully view it soon.

I have always been interested in seeing Iran. I've started learning Farsi.
