Kucinich...Stop Using War As An Instrument of Foreign Policy
Bush Administration Pushes United States Closer To War With Iran

http://kucinich.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=81530

"Washington, Jan 9 - Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) released the following statement after President Bush ratcheted up rhetoric in a news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert this morning, further setting the stage for a war with Iran:

The President said, “Iran is a threat to world peace and that the United States would continue to keep pressure on the Iranians.” However, a National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) report released just last month reaffirmed Iran does not have an active weapons program.

“After using lies and deception to lead us to war in Iraq, the belligerent Bush Administration is doing the same with statements that suggest a preemptive attack on Iran is necessary to avoid a larger war,” Kucinich said.

Today’s press conference comes on the heels of numerous news reports that state the United States fabricated video and audio footage showing Iranian boats confronting U.S. warships in the Persian Gulf.

“If the Bush Administration were truly intent on understanding the facts of the January 6 incident, they would spend their time in the Middle East and hold high-level diplomatic talks with Iranian leaders instead of degrading the diplomatic relations further with bellicose rhetoric.

“The Bush Administration is so intent on starting another war, they will stop at nothing. They will use this incident as a green light to go to war with Iran,” Kucinich said.

Iranian officials reject the footage as fake and accused Washington of trying to stir up tension in the region. The video from Sunday’s incident shows small Iranian boats swarming around U.S. warships in the Strait of Hormuz. According to the Associated Press, the man in the recording speaking in heavily accented English threatened, “I am coming to you. … You will explode … minutes.”

“It is time to stop using war as an instrument of foreign policy. It didn’t work with Iraq and it won’t work with Iran,” Kucinich concluded.

Kucinich has consistently spoken out against the Administration’s drumbeat of war targeting Iran. He has given more than 70 speeches on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2007."

4. Yes, that is how the MIC, and even some Dems, would portray
him. People do not want to hear what he has to say unfortunately.

2. Kucinich gets it right,
As per usual.

I don't think that the rest of the US is ready to listen to a grown-up, though.

Kucinich: Adding More Troops To Afghanistan Only Continues Failed War Policy

http://kucinich.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=81637

"Washington, Jan 10 - Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) released the following statement after learning of the Pentagon’s plan to send 3,000 more Marines to Afghanistan this April:

“The only thing this troop increase is going to achieve is stretching our military forces even thinner than they are already being stretched,” Kucinich said.

News reports today state that Defense Secretary Robert Gates is likely to send 3,000 more forces to Afghanistan in April. These troops will be used to fight another Taliban offensive that is expected this spring and has occurred in previous years.

“It has been proven time and time again that troop surges don’t work. The fruitless war in Afghanistan is not being won militarily,” Kucinich said.

Today’s news of a troop surge comes on the one-year anniversary of President Bush’s call for a troop surge in Iraq of 20,000 additional forces.

“Under our watch corruption and chaos in Afghanistan has developed and flourished. As the United States seeks to abate terrorism we must also learn from the consequences of a war-based foreign policy.

“After six years of destruction and death the United States should discontinue this immoral war and immediately begin high-level diplomatic negotiations with the countries of the Middle East in an effort to establish true stability and peace in the region. Our troops cannot afford to wait,” Kucinich said."

13. Every time he says this, I agree....war as foreign policy? Insanity!

How to Emerge From the Neo-Con and Neo-Liberal Nightmare of the Arrogant Use of Power

“We need to understand the connection between peace and the environment. We know that life on our planet is threatened by the twin threats of global warring and global warming. They are linked, and we have to understand that as we cognize the world as being interconnected and interdependent, we know that resource wars are passe and that the focus on sustainability will create peace.”
