"Want to end poverty? Get a job!" A bumper-sticker that made me ashamed of myself.
I live in a small northern Minnesota town. I saw this bumper-sticker today.

Think about that sentiment for a minute. "Want to end poverty? Get a job!"

Some manly-man was ramming his enormous truck around the parking lot at the bowling alley where I was waiting to pick up my young son. He was making alot of noise, being physically intimidating and threatening.

The man made no apologies for his hatred. He got out of his truck and swaggered around and into the bowling alley. He was PROUD of his views.

I felt very ashamed. I am ashamed for forgetting who our real enemy is. Ashamed for being so devisive here on DU. I have been treating my fellow liberals (does anyone proudly claim that moniker anymore?) so poorly. I have been an ass.

I promised myself then and there that I would try my hardest to remain focused on the real issue, which is beating these hateful, hate-filled Republican scumbags back into the hole they crawled out of.

I expect this post to sink like a stone, as do all of my posts. But I wanted to post it here, to remind MYSELF that my enemy is not within my own party.

I apologise for being so mean-spirited toward people who, for the most part, want the same things out of this election as I do.

1. Should have gone up to him and said "Want to end World Hunger? Buy a Sandwich!"
And then, while he's thinking of a clever response, kick him in the shins and run.

His other bumpersticker said "A man and his truck is a beautiful thing!"

I shit you not.

4. And if one needs a reminder of how hateful the other side is, just go to...
the site I can't say here... It has two Alpha characters like ours though... (Substitute "C" for D="D") and you will find it... Ugly is really ugly... I stated in a recent post that I had never heard of that site until about a month ago here on DU... I went there twice and that was all it took for me to understand what the Repugs are truly about... ugh.

They have nothing at all to say. I found myself quoted over there a few times, but there's no meaningful discussion whatsoever. The whole place is just "quote DU, say, 'they are crazy/dumb/etc.'".

Why are they even bothering? It's so derivative empty.

Work hard and you too can have the Amurkan Dream.

They forget to mention that for most people there are other factors besides hard work involved. Therefore when countless people fail to achieve the dream it's chalked up to personal shortcomings.

They have everytown and city fighting to give them tax breaks and other incentives to either get them or to keep them and I'm not just talking sports teams here, which is btw are nothing more than businesses too. See, it isn't just about keeping wages to slave labor as they have all levels of government kissing their asses. Simply put, it's fascism.

How do we KNOW he was making it on his own? How do we KNOW that it wasn't his DADDY'S truck because he's too lame to own such an eye catcher himself and he doesn't want to be caught dead at the bowling alley in his shitbox Pinto?

We don't care about the bumpersticker, we care about the sentiment it implies. Sorry it was too subtle for you.

You said "IT IS VERY EASY TO BITCH, COMPLAIN AND PROTEST BUT NOBODY WILL DO ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT ABOUT THE 6 OR 8 YEAR OLD KID THAT IS RAPED OR EVEN WORSE???????? WHY IS EVERYONE AT THIS TIME OF YEAR FORGETINGING ABOUT THAT"

Is it a special time of year that I didn't know about? Is there something that you are doing with a young child that you need to get off your chest? I'm confused by your statement.

I assure you, I don't own a trucdk nor am I FORGETINGING about anything at this time of the year.

50. I feel sorry for people like this man who have such a small and limited world view. They think
only of themselves and fail to understand the bigger picture. Such a man is suffering and struggling as much as the poor person who does not know how to get out of their situation. Forgive me for bringing up the bible but Jesus said "the poor you will always have with you." Since HE said that it means that we will always be responsible for taking care of the poor. Regardless of the reason for their poverty.

56. That so reminds me of a Nancy Reagan joke from the eighties
After successfully ending the war on drugs with her "Just Say No" campaign, Nancy Reagan has turned her focus to the problem of homeless people in the U.S. Her solution? Watch for the launch of her "Just Get A House" campaign.

64. Liberterians live in a bubble world
They get to do whatever they want without any thought or consequence as to how it might affect their neighbor. It's a fundamentally flawed philosophy to the core.

The 'illegals', the liberals, the women who take jobs away from men (yes, I've heard this one a few times)...anybody but his fearless leaders and the voices on the radio telling him how his problems aren't his fault.

76.  no one ever got or kept power
by telling the masses that the problems *WERE* their fault. Only a rather small and intellectually advanced percentage of any part of any population anywhere can even start to think about accepting responsibility for their actions in any terms beyond the immediate avoidance of hunger or pain. Every entity that has gained or kept power over a mass of people has always needed the 'other'.

105. Reminds me of a segment from The Planet of the Apes.
It's the part where he says something to the effect of, "Damn them. Damn them all to hell. They went and did it." The quotes are loose as I don't recall it exactly, but you get the point I hope because they all had that sex for pleasure. Funny as they are supporting a chimp now aren't they?
If they fear revelation it's because they're going to hell and they know it

65. greedy selfish whiners
I recently saw a bumper sticker that said, "Bomb Iran before Iran bombs US"

I actually sped up so that I could see what a person who puts such a hateful message on his car looked like, I was so astonished. I doubt you could have picked him out in a crowd although I fully expected him to be covered with some sort of horrible mind-eating fungus to explain such a sentiment.

Thanks for the reminder - it's that mindset we have to fight.

93. I know a lot of dipshits like this
He thinks he's one of the "elite" and he can look down his nose at minorities, the homeless, unemployed, elderly etc. But unless he bought that big ass pick em up with his trust fund or dividends from his stock portfolio, he's just one of the shitbirds like everyone else. And he stands a pretty good chance of having his job packing widgets down at the factory sent to asia in the next few years then he'll be unemployed too. And they'll come and take his big truck away from him.

Then all he'll have is his tiny dick.

Standing in line marking time--
Waiting for the welfare dime
cause they cant buy a job
The man in the silk suit hurries by
As he catches the poor old ladies eyes
Just for fun he says get a job

102. Good post Beausoir. We need to keep this in mind
while we bare our knuckles and fight about the things that matter within our
own party.

At least we are not like the fucking BORG... you remember... that mindless hive of robot-like, ant-like beings that moved forward to accomplish tasks as though driven by some dominant power from above. Or Below...

Do you remember the Borg? It was depicted as one of the Startrek characters... actually a large group of
ant-like, soldier-like enemies of creativity, justice and sanity?

The Repugs, its party, and its member of Congress are like the mindless, souless Borg. They almost never disagree with each other, they just move in unison like zombies.

We however, have minds, souls and knuckles. And we believe in dissent. Yes. We are not always polite.
We can learn to be more polite.

But at least we know the value of dissent.

Maybe you can teach us manners.
